Get him paired up with a good DC and he could dominate.
This is the problem right here. Everyone that loves him gives him a pass on the defense. They assume that he can get a great coordinator and that plus the instate talent will make things easy. ...But he hasn't shown that he can make a good defense. The arguments that he can't get personnel and that you can't play good defense in the offense heavy Big-12 don't hold water. His defense is in the middle of the pack (5th) of the Big 12.

Oklahoma State: 3rd (282.8 ypg)
Iowa State: 10th (307.1 ypg)
Kansas State: 29th (340.5 ypg)
Baylor: 44th (353.9 ypg)
Oklahoma: 70th (386.8 ypg)

Hell, LSU is ranked 68th (385.9 ypg) and apart from the last couple games our D has not been very good. If OSU, ISU, KSU, and Baylor can make good defenses from 3-star players, why can't Oklahoma do it with 4-star players?

Riley is a good coach, and I won't mind having him. However, paying him $12 million dollars a year over 8 years is ridiculous when he has a gaping hole in his resume. Everyone is thinking that he'll fix our one problem (quarterbacks) and everything will be great, but the flip side is a bit scary. What if he can't build a championship caliber defense and we start losing all our in state defensive talent to other schools? frick that!

And FYI, Riley's vaunted Oklahoma offense is 18th in the country (455.3 ypg). Meanwhile Dave Aranda has Baylor's offense at 19th in the country (453.6 ypg), and the players at Baylor aren't close to what you see at Oklahoma.

So Lincoln Riley……
quote:

Has a gaping hole in his resume: Defense!!
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••• & •••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Everyone that loves him gives him a pass on the Defense. They assume that he can get a great coordinator (DC)

So if SW doesn’t hire a HC that WINS AT LEAST 95% of the games he coaches, in a SEC like conference (doesn’t exist), who’s an Offensive & Defensive GURU (also doesn’t exist) that doesn’t need to rely on hiring elite OC’s & DC’s to be successful. He simply MUST be able 2 DO IT ALL himself, Otherwise Woodward’s a friggin dumb arse & this hire is guaranteed to be a FAILURE!!!

This Shits easy - All Woody needs to do is take the 45 minute drive down I-10 & make Sean Payton an offer He CANT refuse! RIGHT?

Awe HELL never mind I forgot that Payton’s just an Offensive guy & even he needed an elite DC (Greg Williams) to win it all, so I suppose He would be a waste of time as well?

Do you see just how completely asinine this sounds when you say it all out loud where other people can hear your ramblings?

Spot on take right here. Armada is a better choice for so many reasons.

Dave Aranda has nothing to do with the offense at Baylor
