My living room tv has decided to start throwing up green vertical lines on the side. I guess it’s time to start looking for a new tv. I haven’t looked or bought a new one in almost 10 years.

What should I look for? Will need to be 55-65” with at least a refresh rate of 120. Do they still make them at 240? What else should I consider?

Nice, in that case I’d get one of the OLEDs from LG (like the one mentioned above) or Sony (A80J 65” currently $1798 Amazon) that fall within budget.

Honestly, give TCL a look. They have the same internals as a Sony. My wife had one last 12 years, and we just now had to replace it. Great price, excellent product.

Where does Samsung rank in the lineup these days?

TCL is not only made fully in China, it is actually owned by the CCP government.

It does not have Sony innards.

That said, TCL has a nice initial TV image but reliability is becoming an issue. Same for Hisense.

If you still want a TCL, be sure to buy their top of the line models.

Samsung’s higher end models are still quite good and among the best LCD TVs, they’re just getting into OLED in 2022. But they are dumping a lot of substandard Q7xx and Q6xx models right now. Beware.

The industry standard right now is Sony. Their XR processor has been a game-changer and sets them apart from LG in the OLED battle.
