Riley and Negotiating in Bad Faith

I’m not an insider. Just a guy who is looking at this info like everybody else. Riley knows where he is going at this point… I don’t see anything new changing his mind.
Sometimes I think fans forget that these are regular people and not calculating super villains.
I have used an offer to leverage a raise. I’ve done it in the past year. You don’t go deep into these types of discussions with money, demands and resources unless the plan is to move companies.
To get this far into a negotiation just to back out is bargaining in bad faith. It gives Riley and his agent a bad reputation. This industry is too small to go around burning bridges with agents, coaches and athletics directors.
The fact that we all know the money means Oklahoma leaked it. And wanted to create pressure. Or LSU leaked it because they missed and wanted to save face.
I’d lean more towards Riley leaving because of the depth of the negotiation to this point and LSU meeting every demand.
Just some thoughts.

Or, he’s a guy who just got offered a frick ton of money to drag his family from a place they enjoy and he’s taking more than 30 seconds to make a decision because he didn’t grow up an LSU fan?
I know. Crazy. You’re probably right.

I'd say OU is at the level with Riley that we were with Les, pertaining to him going to Michigan, a lot of us never really got past that

It’s a discussion board.. you know where people discuss things.

If you only read insider posts you're not gonna have much to read on this board.

Could also be completely made up.

Chances are they have already those discussions for about month with his wife and family.
You don’t come back to the table unless you’re seriously ready to move.

I don’t think it is made up. I’m guessing that’s right on.

Riley is not coming! Be ready for Billy Napier

Think of it like this. All these coaches are in a relationship with their current university. LSU is the smoking hot chic and they all want to get her pants. Some fantasize, some flirt but some will dump their current significant other for the chance to be with the hottest chic at the dance!

I would agree. If they got deep into negotiations, he's coming to BR. Woodward is a closer, he's not gonna go to the bargaining table and leave empty handed, unless Riley never intended to come anyway.

I fully understand you wanting to be guarded, especially after missing out on a couple of guys in the past.
Every negotiation is unique and LSU has the best AD in the business.
Have a little faith in him. He has a great track record.

Yes. It’s the same reason people gravitate towards conspiracy theories. Our brains can’t fathom large consequences coming from small decisions. For example, the part of our brain that seeks patterns and balance can’t reconcile how a lone gunman could kill the President of the United States, or how a few hijackers can bring down skyscrapers. Big reactions must start with an equally big action right? In reality, no. We live in a world where small little simple things can sometimes affect millions of people and cost billions of dollars. That’s just the way it is.

Completely agree that Riley doing all this in bad faith would burn a lot of bridges for his agent and people working with him on this. It’s why I don’t buy in the slightest what that OU “insider” said.

That OU insider posted one of the most irrational posts I’ve read on this whole thing. You’d have to believe that Lincoln Riley was some type of evil genius plotting revenge against LSU for beating him in 2019. That post was illogical and all of his explanations wouldn’t have the intended consequences. Only dumb people think like that.

I mean, there was actually someone on here saying that the deal is all but done, but that Riley refused to meet with Woodward in person until after the ink was completely dry...
So yeah, I've heard it all on here this year. I would've hire someone I hadn't yet had the chance to meet and talk to in-person.
There's so much BS on the board right now that it's just become entertainment... like watching the good old days of WWF.

I don't think Riley was in bad faith.
But common knowledge that coaching salary reset was imminent. MSU at $95 mil validates.
It was a stretch thinking that OU wouldn't initially match.

There are so many conspiracy theories flying around. Truth is likely a lot more simple.
Offer was made. Riley camp thought on it. Countered. LSU said “deal.” Riley gives Oklahoma a chance to match or beat. That’s where we are at this point.
