2019
1- Zion
4 (Traded for 8 & 17)
8- Jaxon Hayes
17 - NAW
35 - Louzada

2020
13-Kira Lewis Jr.
24&60- (Traded in S. Adams deal)

2021
10- (Traded in J. Valanciunas deal)
17- Trey Murphy
35- Herb Jones

Obviously, the jury is out on most of these guys and contrary to our record I am optimistic about our future. But NAW and Jaxon must prove to be valuable rotational players at a minimum this year so as to not be labeled busts.

Griff's record to this point seems impossibly mediocre (with the exception of the almighty Herb). This coupled with his altercation with Alvin Gentry and his persistent mismanagement of Zion Williamson (See injuries, private piano concert) has me truly frustrated with him. Is Lebron the only reason he's here?

You are leaving out some of his worst moves:

1) trading for Adams and Bledsoe, inexplicably extending Adams, then having to give away assets to get rid of them;
2) trading Holliday for likely a bucket of nothing;
3) letting Lonzo go for nothing

I'm never going to defend the guy. But the draft is somewhat of a crap shoot and you need the structure to develop talent. I don't think we have a great development staff and we are not dedicated to it.

To build through the draft. You need multiple high picks in consecutive years. Then you need to feature those players and give them the ability to thrive. Other than Zion, we haven't done that..

Probably should add:

2013: Anthony Bennett
2014: Andrew Wiggins, Joe Harris(Ended up trading him for basically free)
2015: Traded pick in a deal for Timofey Mozgov. Selected Tyus Jones, Sir'Dominic Pointer

His poor drafting was one of my big concerns and reason I didn't want him, and unfortunately, it looks to have continued.

somewhat being a key word here, because year after year we see the same teams that seem to draft fairly well as a whole, with a consistently solid hit rate, regardless of position.

Like Denver, Toronto, Miami, Mil, LAL etc.

Phew boy I can’t believe we didn’t draft all these finished products.

This isn’t the NFL bro.

I wish they would just send NAW to the Squadron and be done with him.

As much as I hate on Hayes/NAW; Hunter has been damn injury prone. Garland however would have been nice. Alas, whatever.

This was the huge miss so far when: Cole Anthony (previously considered a top 5 pick), Tyrese Maxey were available.

This is his saving grace. TM3 has looked solid in spurts, he needs to add 20lbs but he's a smart player with a good shooting stroke. he needs to do more than just 3&D.

Herb looks like a future rotational player for the next decade

I can’t believe a first time starter might take more than 14 games to get settled into some consistency.

He’s arguably the most talented guard on the roster

That's saying quite a lot about the roster then, and not good...

I mean he's pretty much already a lengthier version of Thybuille.

Absolute ceiling? A more versatile Shane Battier?

Honestly Herb's ceiling seems to be a Herb(there might be a better comp I havent considered), but he has potential to be a 3 and D with some solid ball handling and facilitating skills if he continues to develop in those directions. With the ability to switch 1-5 and guard 1-4 at an elite level, potentially even a small ball 5 if he adds size.

---Herb is just a very unique situation. VERY late to even try & develope an offensive game, it was just how he was wired, in his youth. Had virtually NO offensive game when he arrived at Alabama. Had evolved to the point that Oats actually wanted to use Herb as his PG his Sr year (& even a bit in his Jr year, before he broke his wrist) Problem was...Herb was his best option at PG...BUT he was SO raw, he had no idea how to handle the situation when he got to the "decal" on his moves to the hoop.

---Herb was waaay too valuable on D, and waaay too foul prone, to allow him to run the offense also. He would commit a coupla offensive fouls goin' to the hoop just about every game he was used as PG. Given he was constantly in foul trouble...JUST on the defensive end...Oats had to drop the idea of using his best creator on offense. Needed to win games...couldn't take time to teach Herb how to go to the hoop without "charging"...and in college, teams would just line up to draw charges from Herb. Once again...he is a "raw piece of raw"...so much so...that I don't even know how to begin to put a "ceiling" on the guy. Helps that he's an insane workaholic & I don't see that changing, for many years.

Thybulle made all nba defense 2nd team 2021

as did kahwi leonard and jrue holiday and embid.
thybulle is already improving on offense.

if herb jones is exactly thybulle its a fabulous outcome

I remember getting blasted on here for saying how stupid Griff was for giving up that first for Adams and the market dictated it should have been no more than two 2nds and how I’d rather have kept RJ Hampton with that pick.

Of course got criticized for that too b/c muh too many rookies. Wonder how many of you would prefer Hampton on this roster now than Didi lol…..

If you can't sign free agents, and you're too big of a poon to make splash trades, then you have to hit on most of your picks. Zion and Herb Jones are the only picks you can say are hits. Everyone else is either a bust or a bench role player at best. So of the 10 or so draft picks under Griffin, we have 1 superstar that we got lucky to get, 1 defensive/good all around game wing, and used multiple picks to eventually get Val. That's just not gonna get it done with a small market team.

I mostly agree. I think it was the wrong decision to trade down, but the outcome from this trade isn’t as bad as people think. Had we stayed at 4 I presume we’d have hunter or garland on the team. I’d rather have either garland or hunter on the team than NAW/Hayes, but that swap isn’t really moving the needle on us being a contender vs a bottom dweller.

It's not going to get it done. If you look around the league, successful franchises all have two or three guys they've acquired on good deals. Think a Seth Curry in Philly or Alex Caruso in Chicago. It would be as if Satoransky was coming off the bench and giving us 15 points a night.

Small market teams need to that level of talent evaluation, both in the draft and in finding underutilized players buried on other rosters. Agree year three is critical for NAW and Jaxson to show they can at least be rotation guys. As rule you can't take a guy top 10 with the idea it may be 3 years before you get anything out of him, especially in a small market...

No, but the goal of small market rebuilds is to stack good move on good move and build a bullpen of talent and assets through the draft and backroom of FA/trades to allow you to compete with the big guys. Hopefully, opening the door to at least one major move and still having enough reserves to be deep.

You simply can't afford to basically strike out 2 drafts in a row with three lottery picks in tow.

Maybe Garland isn't a future all star, but he is a much more appealing asset in a future trade and just a flat out usable player in the now. Same with Hunter, who when healthy, is a burgeoning elite defender with some solid scoring skills.
