ESPN's treatment of LSU

I was pleasantly surprised at the love LSU has been getting from ESPN (Everyone Says Prophalactics are National champs) network. In addition to the shots on Gameday's opening with Big & Rich, Scott is creeping into the New York Atheltic Club talk and Lee's getting props.
I was shocked beyond belief when Fowler called the USC game Thursday and hammered the Trojans. I mean hammered. Even this morning on GD, he says 12-1 SEC or Big XII champ gets in over 12-1 USC. Can I just say, "Duh?"

I would love to believe this is because they have "seen the light" but I really think this sudden love for LSU and the SEC as a whole has more to do with their recent mega-contract with the SEC than it does any philosophical change in beliefs.

I think it is a bit of both. Think of it this way, they were all geeked up over one team in the largest media market (east coast) but now they can talk up ALL of the SEC teams/games and not have all of their eggs in one condom. I am just amazed it took them this long to realize it.

There is no philosophy except get ratings and money. Any other perceived slight is delusion

maybe that has to do with the SEC playing great football these days.

when you have egg on your face, and are in front of a bunch of 20-20 vision enthusiast listening carefully, you must speak the truth...Fowler and ESPN has no choice but to say the obvious truth...there is no room for rationlization or excuses....you are giving credit to them for acknowledging egg white/yellow all over their face...thats like giving yourself credit for recognizing whether you have a shirt on or not

did he really say this? because USC will only be 11-1 if they run the table on the season. They only play 12 games.

A concept that is hard for some fans to understand. They hyped the LSU-Auburn game last week to get higher ratings and it worked. They are hyping UGA-Bama game to get higher ratings. They also hype the other BCS conferences because they want higher ratings for ABC.
Higher ratings = more money for the network. A simple concept.

15 year Mega-bucks contract!!!! The time has come for a new ESPN romance with none other than the SEC.
Get used to the new love affair.

Man get off of it! The World is not against LSU there are plenty of people and media that respect LSU and what they are doing. This school has been irrelevant up until the last 5 or 6 years. Some of these other schools have been relevant since the start of college football and are the pillar of college football.

Actually since the 1984 Georgia-OU lawsuit that took television contract control out of the NCAA's hands, the SEC has been the most sought after conference, with the largest ratings for networks, this well before the SEC became as dominant as it is now. What is amazing about the $1B ESPN/SEC deal is that CBS is already paying the SEC more money than ABC/ESPN is paying all other conferences combined. ESPN still thinks it's worth it to pay $1B for what is essentially CBS' leftovers.

The real question is whether a potential 2 loss SEC champ can get into the NC over an 11-1 Southern Cal team.
Let's say USC wins out, but looks sloppy in a few of those games, despite winning all by double digits.
Now let's say either Florida, Georgia, or LSU accumulate 2 losses against ranked opponents that go down to the wire, yet they win the SEC.
Big XII champ has one loss.
At this point, who would get in...a 2 loss SEC champ or USC?

I can understand 1 loss getting into the NCG but 2 losses and another team only has 1 that's just not gonna happen if the other team play in a BCS conference sounds like someone think we may drop 2?

Maybe you missed the front page at ESPN
ESPN.com
With the downfall of USC, who are they pimping as the "Leader of the Pack?"
3 pics - Ga, Fla, and OK
But NO mention of the still undefeated, and current BCS champion (and may I add the only 2-time BCS champs).
So, no I don't see no LSU bias!

So they signed the contract last week?
They were blowing USC until this week. The whole "contract" argument isn't that big a deal.
