I just keep thinking back to his laser of a touchdown throw to Nabors against ole miss. Dude can make some tight throws that really would’ve helped us on Saturday. What could’ve been..

So on Saturday, when we needed him, he didn't play so he didn't burn his redshirt and now he's available to play the rest of the season?

He can still play one game and not burn his redshirt

I'm all for throwing shite against the wall at this point, but what exactly has Nussmeier done to make us think he is any better than Max? Sure, he throws a pretty ball, but his accuracy and decision-making needs serious work (42.5% completion percentage). That's kind of important.

Nah, it's just that he is ENTIRELY reactionary and has no ability for forethought because he simply doesn't have a feel for the game.

Sure, going into the Alabama game you had no plans of unnecessarily burning the redshirt of a young QB because you (probably deep down) thought it wasn't going to be a close game. But then the world changed. It was a dog fight with your team playing their hearts out and, arguably, out manning the opponent. The team was DESPARATE for a spark from the QB spot. And given the way the defense was playing all they needed was ONE spark. Good coaches see the opportunity and do whatever they feel is necessary to try to win. O just starts the game as a cheerleader and continues to cheerlead throughout.

Was it certain Nussmeier would have given you the spark necessary to win the game? Of course not. But it is so much better to have tried and lost rather than not tried at all.

he explained why

Nuss and his father said they didn't want to burn his redshirt. Sunday Nuss told O he wanted to play and his dad called Peetz and said let him play.

I realize that, but he also said he'd also have the opportunity to play the rest of the season. That would burn his redshirt

Max didn’t have it Saturday and was the main reason we lost , even Ed just said we had the right calls and Max missed the throws. Why not for one series see if Nussmeier can do better , you have nothing to lose.

If he plays this week, he’s going to play again. This should have been the plan before last week. Not saying we would have won against Bama, but at least use all of your bullets if they are going to be used anyway.

The eye test. Johnson is emotionless and shows no leadership. He’s not a gamer and right now is gun shy to the point of stepping into pressure and making ridiculous of center throws he has no business making. Nuss shows confidence, he’s got a better arm, he’s a gamer and has some legit wheels and other players like bech feed off of his energy. What’s their to lose at this point?

Wow!!! You mean max doesn’t have “it”. I thought he did . I thought that’s why the fricking retards couldn’t decide who should start before the season

His upside is better IMO but I don't think he would have been ready to play bama on the road from the passes I have seen him attempt this year

That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. If that’s truly the mindset, there’s absolutely no reason to not play him against Bama. Total stupidity, the opportunity to win was there for the taking, you seize the moment and exhaust every option you have to win.

I think Nuss realizes he can lock up the starting job for 2022 in these last 3 weeks. I wish he wouldn't have been so protective of his redshirt going in to Bama. I really think he could have been the spark the offense needed.

To blame O for honoring the kid and his family's wishes is silly (not aimed at you).

You forgot to add that Nussmeir has been completely wild and off target with most of his passes. I'm all for giving him a shot, but he needs to relax.

If true, then shame on Nussmeier. It's not his Dad's decision to make. If you are a competitor on the sideline watching your teammates give EVERYTHING they have to try to win the game and you think you can, perhaps, make a difference...you go to the HC and say "Coach, I know we may have discussed differently earlier in the week, but I'm ready to go if you need me."

At that point you then let the HC make the ultimate call. But as a competitor you've told him you are ready and there no reason to hold him out. If Dad is upset about it after them game, then he can piss off. He already had his opportunity to play college football.
