Is the implication that Dale is bad? Because he's awesome.

Sara Reinis, a 26-year-old creative strategist at Vox Media, held her first Friendsgiving last year at her apartment in Brooklyn. Between 30 and 40 people showed up to the potluck, multiple of whom brought dishes from the Whole Foods hot bar. The centerpiece? A cake with icing that read, “Gobble gobble, bitch.”

I've been doing a friendsgiving for the better part of 15 years now. Maybe you live out in the sticks and just aren't up with "current" trends that are decades old.

Saw Target and HEB both promoting it instead of Thanksgiving. When did the word Thanksgiving become offensive?

It’s not, it’s more when you live physically distant from your family and don’t want to go cross country to see them so you do it with your friends instead. Lots of people do this, and I did one last year due to Covid.

I don’t think it’s meant to be political, I think it’s just something people started doing to celebrate with friends they actually like before doing Thanksgiving with their families

Yup, this.

It’s another reason to have a party. We are doing this with our friends this weekend before everyone goes to their family gatherings.

Any friends that mean anything to me are considered family, so I always just invite them to my regular old Thanksgiving. Sometimes they accept and if they don't then I understand they have families of their own or other plans.

I don't create imaginary days to do the same thing I already have planned and has been done the same way for many years before.

Friendsgiving is just another made up thing for liberal cult members to gather. They're probably already talking about cancelling the term "dark meat" too.

I've been doing this for 25 years and still, its Thanksgiving on the calendar.

sounds like somethng teenage girls would celebrate.

I don't think it is a political statement. Don't take it too seriously.

WELL, "Friendsgiving" is typically not on Thanksgiving day. hence the different name.

Oh, you’re right. I don’t live below I10 so must live in sticks to not know this. Whether I do or don’t, it seems unnecessary. I think I will start calling our get together Familygiving so as not to confuse anyone. And I know the trend is not new, i even said that, but I still think it’s weird. I suppose it’s ok if referring to another day of the week but stupid if done on the actual Thursday.

The amount of people triggered in this thread by the name of a fake holiday is both amazing and sad.
