The Floyd and Lansville outings inspire a lot of confidence.

A lot of strong pitching performances today.

Most impressive, if my calculations from Scuba’s stats are correct, is LSU pitching had a total of 29 K’s, 2 BB, and no HBP over the 20 innings. Regardless of the competition, that’s impressive.

Thanks Scuba!

What happened to Bianco? Transfer portal? Thought he had a year left.

I believe it was said he's been nursing an injury.

ETA: Thanks Scuba!

McManus is going to be a very special player here. His first home run of the day was an absolute laser, and he has a cannon for an arm.

I forgot to mention that Brandon Holt had to be helped off the field after hitting the turf hard while chasing a pop foul against the tarp near the UNO bullpen late in the second game. He was not putting any weight on his left leg.

I hope not, it is crucial to have a veteran offensive leader on the team

Hoping he can break that slump with a new hitting coach and get back to his old ways. And gain some of that weight back

1. Doughty 2B
2. Morgan 1B
3. Crews CF
4. Berry 3B
5. Beloso DH (if he can get back to '19 + '20 form)
6. Dugas LF
7. McManus C
8. Drost RF
9. Thompson SS

That's legit POWER power 1-8 and a guy who can get to double digit home runs at 9.... wooo buddy that's an offense

I like what I saw out of Doughty in the leadoff and think it is an intriguing idea to pursue. But if that is the case, using only the players you selected here, then I would do an order like this in order to get Crews and Berry the most ab's I can in a game/season:

1. C. Doughty
2. Crews
3. Berry
4. Dugas
5. Morgan
6. McManus
7. Beloso
8. Drost
9. Thompson

I could also see flipping Morgan and McManus as well. Plus I have noticed that Johnson likes to alternate his righty/lefty bats when he can.

However, even with as well as Beloso did this weekend, I think he still has an uphill battle of surpassing Jobert as DH, or even Berry may have to be in the DH role as Merrifield is having a really good fall in the field and at the plate, and Berry right now is proving to be a liability on defense.

Beloso still has to hit a whole lot more than what he has to make some headroom

I agree, and it was only UNO. But you could tell last year that there was still power in his bat. He has an odd, slice like swing, and last year he seemed to catch every ball at the top of the bat and slice it straight up in the air.

Hopefully the new staff can work with him on that. Maybe it's a vision issue? Swings like his should rarely produce pop ups, and that's almost exclusively what he did last year.

90% of Beloso's issues were mental. Aside from that, I think he was sorely under-developed. Without any tape/charts on him when he got here, he could get by with just see ball-hit ball. That doesn't last at this level. Once he started to struggle, he lost confidence and it spiraled out of control. I think he will have much better guidance now. The fact remains that the lineup is going to be really crowded, and he really doesn't have a position. I think he still can provide value in pinch hitting and occasional DH role.

If Holt is as seriously injured as it seemed, we're up to potentially 4 guys that could take a medical redshirt and relieve some of the roster pressure.

Leto, Holt, Travinski, and Simon.

Absolutely. And, guys like Haddad and Brant Smith may be candidates for redshirt, too.

Johnson has used the redshirt to great effect in previous stops. TJ Friedl redshirted his first year at Nevada under Johnson and signed for over $400k as UDFA (an unheard of amount, due to no one realizing he was draft eligible) after his RS Soph year when he blew up for Team USA. I think he made the majors this year.

Kobe Kato redshirted his freshman year at Arizona and was drafted in the 13th round by the Astros this past draft.

If they player is receptive, it seems like Johnson has good development plans and a good way to execute them when guys aren't getting game action. That's exciting for the future of the program. It can only help with program continuity and consistency.
