Dumas Course

I thought Dumas was closing down for good, but I drove by last week and it looked like they were doing work on some tee boxes and greens. Did I misunderstand and maybe they are re-configuring it and not closing it?

Yea. I made a post on here with a pic of the routing. They are combining Dumas and Clark into 1 9 hole gc.

The combination and routing makes very little sense but I’ve come to expect that from BREC/BR.

I went a while back with a buddy while I was in BR. Probably the shittiest course I’ve ever played.

Dumas was never “nice”
I did enjoy playing it bc it was cheap, rarely crowded

The back 9 was so much more enjoyable than the front. The front was boring.

More arse clownery from the morons at BREC.

I thought the exact opposite. BAck was just long, straight and boring. 18 was slightly interesting. Front 9 made you think at least. Played that course several hundred times at least. Hate to see it changed.

1. Nice Par 5
2. Extreme dog leg 4
3. decent par 3
4, 5 (wide enough to land a plane), 6 were just straight bombs.
7. Cool water hole
8. Slight dog leg left
9 slight dog leg right
10. Short par 5 with tree in the middle.
11. Long par 3
12. Tough par 5 with dog leg and large ditch guarding.
13. Plain par 3
14. Short par 5 with water guarding green on both sides.
15. Short par 4 with subtle bend.
16. Short par 3, with tierd green.
17. Short par 4 with gog leg.
18. Par 3 over water.
The back seemed to break up the par 4s more.

I have fond memories of Dumas from the late 90s/early 2000s as I played a ton of golf there. It was never in "great" shape, but the greens were usually pretty good for a cheap muni course. It really had a nice collection of par 3s, especially after they added the newest one (16).
Who remembers the old routing where 13 was the first hole and was a par 4? There was a par 3 for the 3rd hole, then you went back to the current 15 as the 4th hole. 16 didn't exist, and the tee for the current 17 was in a different spot. Everything else was the same and you finished on the current 12.

I remember the old layout. Clubhouse was on Lavie Ln. I think they had to change that old 1 from a par 4 to a par 3 because too many people were peppering the Shell station across from it. LOL.
I used to like the course also. I thought it was a good course for new golfers. Now those new players will need to crowd the already slow golf courses around BR.

They changed the layout it seems since I played last. I grew up playing it and it was not layed out like that. The old front 9 started at the old clubhouse and went to Hwy 19 and back to the clubhouse. 10-18 went down Lavey Lane and back in the woods by the neighborhoods.

I liked the old layout better. The last one made it almost impossible to walk since you had to bring lunch because there were no turn. The play went down greatly from the old to the new layout. Yes and on #1 I put a few balls over Larvey Lane.

My first ever swing on a golf course was there and it went over Lavey Lane and onto the roof of that shopping center across the street

Made my first ever eagle on the old #2 there. Chipped my 3rd shot in from right of the green. I think there may be a pond there now. But I do remember it was with one of these TaylorMade golf balls:
