JJ actually somewhat defended the Pels and criticized Zion.

What.

LINK

Basically he was asked if the Pelicans should be worried about Zion leaving. He said they should be worried about his health more than anything and that if he was healthy then Pelicans fans would have a lot to be excited given the nucleus of players in place.

Not sure why it's shocking though? JJ's problem was never with the fans, the players, or the team itself though. I mean JJ donated 100 grand immediately after the hurricane. It was/is with one person.

Which was/is what makes the vitriol toward JJ so absurd to me. He hates Griff, and guess what? Most of this fanbase hates Griff too.

I took it as glass half empty. Someone that is a client of the agency who is believed to be using its ESPN assets, of which JJ is now one, to help get Zion to the Knicks, just put a clock of 4-5 years on Zion's tenure as a Pel.

This is pretty naive man. It may be true that he only hates Griff. But he nuked the organization's reputation on the way out at a time when our perception around the league due to Zion was/is super vulnerable and low to begin with. While he has the right to do it, let's not pretend like he didn't know how uniquely situated we are as an organization to suffer from this type of PR/reputation hit. It's not just Griff who suffers from what he said.

In fairness, if you had to bet the O/U on Zion being a Pel and it's set at 4.5 years, I'm fairly certain we'd all take the under.

The odds aren't in our favor that he'll be here 5 seasons from now.

The vitriol is because we were depending on him to space the floor for Zion, but he sucked and then whined that we wouldn't trade him to a team in the Northeast, when none of them wanted him.

His poor play is a significant contributing factor to our failure to make the playoffs last season.

Albeit small, he also took a shot at fans on Twitter.

Maybe I read it wrong, but I took "There's certainly a lot more at play here than whether he ends up leaving the Pelicans in 5 years or 4 years or whatever it is" to mean 1-2 years from now.

Ah, gotcha.

You could be correct, but I didn't take it that way. I do think he was stating worry about short term more than 4-5, but by short term, I assumed he meant health and just getting on the court.

I actually took it as an assumption that Zion would sign his extension.

Which is 100% why the guy needs to be fired tonight. Never believed in the fricking guy, and looks like I'm right again.
