Millions of huge invasive spiders from Asia take hold in Georgia: "Like a scene out of 'Arachnophobia'"

A large spider native to East Asia has spun its thick, golden web on power lines, porches and vegetable patches all over north Georgia this year — a proliferation that has driven some unnerved homeowners indoors and prompted a flood of anxious social media posts.

Nope. Those look like those big sum bitches webs you hit driving thru the woods on your 4 wheeler going to the deer stand.

I’m not saying I want one at my house, but they’re kind of pretty.

We've had golden orb weavers in central OK for at least 40 years, probably more. They're not dangerous. Haven't seen them in my backyard for a couple years, probably due to the stupid-arse weather we've been having lately. I'd figure most Georgians aren't fazed by critters like this.

it is probably stated in the link that I am too lazy to click on but is there any mention as to whether they are venomous?

Looks like a Banana Spider...

We fish the Pearl River Basin... There's a cut off of the Pearl called Peach Lake... It's basically a small cut lined with trees. Fishing it one summer, there were practically hundreds of banana spiders in the canopy over our head. Looked like something out of Indiana Jones movies...

You ain’t lying. I drove through one a couple of weeks ago heading to my stand. Saw it in the headlights right before i ran smack dab into it.

I started flailing my arms and yanking webbing of of my face/head.
Hell, two hours after, I was still feeling like something was crawling on me.

That looks like the typical banana spider you catch in the face on a four wheeler ride through the woods

I was always told no. Brought home to show people from the ease before.

Looked it up and it seems they may have some venom but are really non aggressive.

Kid: "There's a spider in my room!"
Dad: "It won't hurt you."
Kid: "Did the spider tell you to say that?"
Dad: "Huh, no."
Kid: "Can I sleep in your room with you?"
Dad: "No, you're a big boy."
Kid: "Then can you sleep in my room with me?"
Dad: "With the spider?? No way"
