...I watched on SuperStation TBS as LSU laid an egg in Knoxville, losing to Tennessee, 42-20. Considering what awful shape our program was in at that time, what with a 2-9 season just one year prior, I never would have believed it if someone had told me on that day that ten years later, our season would culminate with a co-national championship. My, how things have changed at LSU, and for the BETTER!

I was impressed with Jay Johnson in that game and he continued to do so throughout that season. That was Hallman's best team.

Did we tie with Oklahoma? I could have sworn we beat them. . . . silly me.

Welcome to TigerDroppings. There was no co-national champion in 03. There was only one. Check USC's trophy case. There's only one BCS crystal in there

There's only 1 national championship. There's only one crystal football trophy. LSU has both.
Take your "co-national championship" crap to the USC board; they'll love you and take you in as one of their own.

If LSU laid an egg wouldnt the score have been 42-0?? You cant lay an egg and score 20 pts.
The 0 is the egg.

Years ago there was a guy on here who called himself Voice of Tiger Nation who warned that LSU would "lay an egg" in its next game each and every game.

I suspect that lsuelvis is him reincarnated.

I've never heard it used in such a way as to require that the loss be a shutout. I've frequently heard references to Ohio State "laying an egg" in both of their national championship games of the last two years, although they were not shut out in either game. I've always heard the phrase "laid an egg" used simply to describe a poor effort, not necessarily implying a shutout.

I have heard the score "0" referred to as a "goose egg" before, though.

I have only heard it when referring to a shut out. They laid an egg = 0.

www.ncaa.org/champadmin/ia_football_past_champs.html I, like all Tiger fans, would have like for 5 years ago to have been unanimously our title, but the fact is, it will go down as a SHARED national championship. I don't like it any more than y'all, but it's a cold, hard fact!
