I love mine. Had it for years. Home and truck. Always goes bang accurately.

It’s a small revolver. Those bang your hand pretty good. I carry that one everyday, but only because my ruger lcr was stolen.

Did any of you replace the grip?

The factory grip feels small.

I replaced the rubber grips on mine with mahogany wood altamont company grips. Slips in and out of a jacket pocket without friction ... great gun for CC as a businessman

Thats one I have, but with the Crimson trace grips which give a little more to hold than the smaller pocket carry. I like it* and carry and have in the truck most of the time. Great little gun but is a little harder to shoot well than the 6" revolver.

*I originally bought it for my ex, but she hated the snappy kick of the small light gun. Maybe its not great in little hands.

Great guns. Prob the ultimate concealed carry roscoe. If you decide to get one, you'll want to update the trigger to reduce the trigger pull. The trigger out of the box is a little jerky. I'd also update the sights. And oh yeah you'll also want a speed reloader.

As with any gun, practice, practice, practice.

Make sure the one you are looking at doesn't have that BS built in lock.

I’m going to completely disagree with the guy above. If you get in a situation where you have to shoot someone, you WILL go to court over it. Maybe only civil, it you will go. The last thing you want is a gun that you have modified to make it easier. You want box stock. Don’t give the attorneys anything to grab onto.

As I said before, that little gun sucks to shoot. I simply don’t believe that somebody is practicing much with it. When I got the gun, I was shooting comps and practicing a lot, 16k-20k rounds a year. I know what recoil feels like. That gun is a great gun, it just sucks to shoot.

Do all the new 642's have the built in lock?

It is a revolver, I would never trust my life to one. It has one advantage, if you don't ever train you only have to keep pulling the trigger if the first round doesn't go off.

It has a ton of disadvantages. Slow reloads unless your a Miculek. The mechanisms are extrememly complicated with TONS of parts to fail. If you have never taken apart a J frame you would probably be shocked at all the little parts and springs. It only holds 5 rounds, a beefed up drug addict could take more than 5 rounds to take down, much less an an entire criminal gang trying to get at you. Modern subsubcompact pistols are just as easy to conceal, hold more rounds, are easily reloaded with a spare mag and are a much simpler design. Plus the vast majority are going to be more accurate even though honestly the accuracy of hitting 5" or 2" isn't a big deal in a defensive situation, your body is going to have you in fight or flight anyway and you aren't going to be near as accurate as you are at the range.

I would. I completed the LSP post academy with a Model 66.
Very confident with it. Speedload in 3 seconds.

There are actual shootings that make both 357 and 9mm look bad.

The BRPD suspect in the Apt. 357 thru the side . " You got me a good one that time " he told the officer.

1986 FBI Miami shootout. 9mm silvertip thru the side chest of Platt. Dade County Coroner later said it was a non survive wound, yet Platt still fought back and Killed Agents Dove, Grogan, and wounded other agents. 9 mm silvertip thru a forearm. Still fought back.
It was all finally stopped by Ed Mirales with a Smith 586 357 .

Wildlife Agt in the 2000's, early maybe actually 2000 year, drove up on a body dump. Perp exited vehicle opened fire with a revolver. Agt returned fire with Sig Sauer p220. He almost did not make it. I think he got the perp center mass with one of the last shots. Right on side of the state truck. The truck was tore up with 357 rounds. Doorpost, seat, windshield, etc.

The number of rounds in the auto probably saved him.

Have a 442 w/o the lock and I love it. Nice for pocket carry. The people saying they wouldn't trust their life with a revolver are nuts.

About the only neg is the limited capacity vs. a pistol. But other than that its a great gun. A pistol is my normal EDC but I do carry the 442 occasionally and totally feel confident in it's ability with the 38spl.

Just make sure to get a lot of range time in to get used to the DAO, the trigger definitely requires more effort than a striker fired pistol.

They're great and seem to have avoided the recent quality control problems w/ S&W. Light weight with a pretty heavy trigger pull but that is by design w/ a double only self defense weapon. I put traditional wooden diamond S&W grips w/ a tyler t-grip on mine. Get the black no the matte silver.

Not trying to argue, but do you have any proof of this? Court cases or anything?
