From a purely objective perspective, who would you cut to add Kaepernick?
What you would be gaining:
-Maybe a passable backup with a huge ego
-The insane girlfriend calling your front office slaveowners
-Kaepernick sideshow nonsense
-You would be uniquely pressured by EVERYONE to play him immediately, or you are racist (possibly slaveowners)
-loss of revenue from Trumpers. (You may think this acceptable, but could be a fiscal nightmare)
-loss of support from Veterans and police. (whether you think it is warranted or not, you KNOW it would happen)
-Tentative good press from the left, Unrelenting bad press from the right (currently your team is not getting either, in relation to this)
What do you lose:
-Some contributing player
