Tiger n Atl,
Do you have a link or could you explain that statement? Why does he want to "remind" them of the "cigar game"?
Are you about to tell us something that would make us feel better about Tubby?

This was 1st college game I can remember without a holding call. Holding is the worst call to me since it could be thrown on nearly every play! I'm glad the refs let the boys play and the best team won.
Don't try reminding the rantards of this in 2010 when we return to Auburn. All you will hear about then is how we are going to screwed by the refs!

,(although Alems roughing call got me thinkin),
The roughing the passer penalty against Al Jones was a good call. He was pretty late getting to the QB.

I thought the game was called really well. I would imagine that with this game being the only top 10 game in the country, and the contraversy over the officiating for the last two games, we were assigned the best crew available.
I remember the late hit/out of bounds call on Shepard, I saw that head official calmly explain the call to Shepard. I thought that was classy.

But there weren't thousands of people with "Allbarn" pins at the game.

something else i noticed was how well LSU neutralized and blocked out Tray Blackmon on almost every play. Very smart O line blocking.

It was great to have the players decide the game and not the refs. Great Game all around.

The contact with the Auburn QB on that last Auburn offensive play was clearly clean (notwithstanding Tubberville's theatrics), but I was still astounded that they did not throw a flag -- the zebras must have been intimidated by stepped-up scrutiny.

We did have one obvious roughing the passer late
I wouldn't call it obvious, but it wasn't a terrible call.

one stupid on our part roughness call out of bounds
Yeah, that last little heave by Sheppard was what drew the penalty, and it was a decent call.

the legit pass interference call on us in the end zone.
Yes.
We also had a 5-yard penalty for a substitution infraction on defense when one of our LBs was trying to get off the field but didn't get off before the snap. One question I had about that one, though...why did the refs blow the play dead after the snap? Shouldn't they have allowed the play to continue, then assessed the penalty afterward? I'm glad they blew it dead, because it would have been a free play for Auburn, but I've never seen them blow the play dead after the snap for that penalty before.
I don't remember our other penalty, but since the above account for 50 yards, it must have been a 5-yarder for something. I seem to recall our jumping offsides on defense once in the first half, but am not sure.
Auburn's penalties included the five-yard offsides penalty on the opening kickoff and, presumably, one other one for 15 yards, but I don't remember what it was. There should have been a holding call AND an intentional grounding call against Auburn on one play in the first half when we got pressure on Todd despite being held, and he threw it away short of the line of scrimmage with no receiver in the area and while still inside the tackles, but no call was made.
There were also offsetting personal foul penalties at one point, and an illegal shift against us on Lee's pick six that Auburn obviously declined.
All in all, though, it was a well-officiated game, which was a welcome change from our previous trips to Auburn. Finally, the players and coaches decided the outcome instead of the officials. And, not surprisingly, the better team finally won.

I wish I could argue that with you, but I can't. This LSU football team is clearly better than Auburn….and if Auburn would have some how held LSU at the end and won, I think I would still say the same thing….

the home game for Auburn should be played later in the season--the same weekend LSU hosts. Too much riding on the game for it to be decided in September. Plus the weather's better.

For the life of me, I can't understand why the SEC chose to put two of its biggest games (UF-Tenn and LSU-Aub) so early in the season. Those two matchups have decided their respective divisions more than any other divisional matchups in the conference, and it's a shame that, so frequently, the division titles were decided in September.

Auburn is still a very good team though. I see them losing no more than 2-3 games.
What I found encouraging is that we didn't have any offensive penalties, considering having new QBs.

I cringed a little bit on that sideline QB hit on the final play. It was the perfect opportunity to throw a flag for late hit. I was a little surprised Tubby didn't get the call he was fussing for, based on years past.

If I could change the schedule I'd split the Ms teams so that one is home and one is away each year, and move the Auburn game back.
ETA: and if we're gonna play Tulane, let it be the first game of the year.

Of course, one of my cynical freinds has already suggested that this officating crew will never be allowed to officiate in the SEC again...

Nah - I'm sure TT saw the replay of that play and realized it was a good solid stick - nothing dirty or late about it. At the time he was just "in the moment" going apeshi7 since the hit was right in front of him - like any coach would.
Agree with everything said here in this thread. LSU's D-line is sick. Truthfully, our O-line just doesn't have the ability to deal with that kind of strength and speed - hate to say it, but it's true. I think that even though it was a "close" game, we had a couple of lucky breaks that made it closer than it should have been. Todd threw a couple of ducks that made it through (although his pass to Dunn was beautiful). That being said, he played with class, managed the game as well as he could given his ability, and I was proud of him for hanging in there with all of those licks he took.
Maybe next year we will be a little more experienced with this offense. We need a couple of studs like Latrell and Byrd. Those guys are 2 very strong and fast dudes.

The LSU offensive line is damn good too.
Our D-Line is a beast, and LSU opened holes like crazy.
Ya'll have a great team.
