Was wondering if anyone could give some good ideas for a day trip to Vicksburg. Want to visit the battlefield but any restaurants, shopping, suggestions would also be good. Want to appease the boss. Thank you.

Rusty's on the riverfront or tin south are the best restaurants

Lunch at Walnut Hills is fun...get fried chicken. Do the Civil War Park
Hit the rooftop bar downtown before dinner at Rusty's.

https://10southrooftop.com/ was a good time. Not much going on in Vicksburg BTW.

Ten south has mediocre food, but a great atmosphere. Other restaurants:
Walnut hills
Rusty’s
Cottonwood
Beechwood (if there at supper)
Main Street market
The tomato place.
Aside from the battlefield you could visit the lower ms river museum (across from Rusty’s), the old courthouse museum (can buy a song of the south movie here if that interests you), old depot museum, see where Coca Cola was first bottled, view the murals on the flood wall at city front, drive across the river and visit the southern heritage air museum, tour antebellum homes, and hit up the antique shops if that is your cup of tea. If you are felling adventurous you could hire Layne Logue to take you on a canoe trip on the MS River. Layne and I paddle together some and you may end up in one of my kayaks. Quapaw Canoe Company
I live in Vicksburg, so if you have specific questions about anything just fire away.

Also, if you tour the military park you may be interested in getting a guide that can tell you about the monuments, points of interest, and areas where the battle was most important. A few miles of the park road are currently closed due to erosion (and will be for a while).

I agree with everything you said. I’d emphasize Rusty’s for supper, as I think it’s the best food in town. Make sure you show up early, though!
Take him to the Longbranch after y’all close down all the bars in town.
