After 38 years, Ralph Freehaus is ready to roll credits on his career in the movie theater business. “I think it’s time for me to retire and let the internet experts take over for me,” says Freehaus, who owns Cinemagic Theatre in Athens. He tells AL.com he put Cinemagic up for sale about a week ago. The Cinemagic parcel is about four acres. It includes a single drive-in screen with drive-in capacity for around 80 automobiles, as well as an indoor theater with five screens, 722 seats and roof-mounted solar panels that provide about 25 percent of the theater’s electricity. The asking price is $1. 75 million.

I’ve always desired to do like Quentin Tarantino and buy a movie screening venue and showcase classic movies.

I feel like we have the tech to do drive-ins even better now with wi-fi/bluetooth whatever. Don't have to install speakers in parking lots, just have people connect to the audio with a passcode that comes with the ticket purchase or something. And the patrons can get the BJ during the movies like the good old days without the movie theatre judging you.

Unlike the old days, everything about drive in movie theaters would be because of......

Can you imagine the shootings? Trash on the ground? Cars parked in two spaces. etc etc etc

no thanks.

Same here. Been wanting to do it in BR for a few years. Never in Alabama. Looking for a good mid city venue.

That's a tiny arse screen...

You'd need to bring some binoculars..

I've lived in Athens 25 years of my life and had no idea it existed. It's 7.2 miles from my house.

That would be rad to show grindhouse and other cult films. I've toyed with the idea of opening a small, single-screen theater. I think the key is introducing a new social element to the experience because, as others have mentioned, they could simply just watch at home.
