The latest post on Dandy Don mentions Brayden Jobert from Delgado as "LSU's first-baseman". Anyone know the status of Tre Morgan at 1st Base? I know there were rumblings of him moving to outfield during the latter part of last season.

He’ll probably play center which I don’t agree with because he is all world 1st base

Jobert can hit. Our offensive lineup will be stacked this year.

This could be a rumor but I heard Morgan was only at 1st Base last season because of a throwing arm injury/surgery in high school. If that’s true I’d love to see what his glove can do in the outfield

With his speed and skill he will be all universe in the outfield. I'm for it.

A lot of center fielders, shortstops, and 3rd basemen could be all-world at 1st base, they don’t move them to first because those positions are so much more valuable. It’s way better to have a slightly-below-all-world center fielder than an all-world first baseman.

I’d much prefer have Tre’s defensive skills and great bat at center with another huge bat in the lineup and adequate first base play, rather than keeping Tre at first and potentially having a shitty bat in center. The Mainieri defensive obsession doesn’t work, it’s not a winning battle and the difference between adequate and elite defense isn’t really that relevant as long as you don’t have guys who literally can’t field balls

Not sure. But Tre’s future is probably OF. As sick of a 1B as he is. Plus you get optimal lineup

I don't see how you could possibly take Morgan off of first after last year but I don't know shite.

If Jobert can hit he'll play if not it's Morgan's spot to lose.

If they need a place to put Berry and it's 1B then Morgan may get some reps in the outfield.

In a perfect world, you have the luxury of a super-athletic first-baseman. In the real world, you have to reserve 1st base for a lesser-athletic bat.

Morgan will OF, and fielders will have to quit relying on the 1st baseman to consistently bail them out.

He’s a great 1st baseman, the kid and the family, I think, and also other baseball people, think his future is in the outfield

I'm sure they will try him in the outfield if he's open to it. Positional versatility is very important in today's baseball. It will help Tre's draft stock a lot if he proves he can play a capable outfield AND a stellar first base.

Going to be very interesting to see how CJJ fits all of these potential plus bats into the lineup.

There is a reason almost every fat guy you've ever seen play baseball plays 1B. It's the easiest spot to put your worst defensive player so you typically reserve it for a big time bat that lacks range. Paul always erred towards defense and Johnson seems to be more offensive minded. IF that move happens, it means Jobert can crush the ball and Tre is much more capable of sliding into a different position.

It was awesome watching Tre at 1B but his athleticism can be wasted a bit there and more maximized at other positions so I wouldnt hate the move.

Unless Jobert got the same glove, Tre saved a lot of runs last year

This is my biggest concern with moving him off 1b. We needed a magician there because for whatever reason we couldn't throw to first with consistency even on relatively routine plays. If we can iron that out I'm all for putting a masher over there.
