1. Brian Kelly (screams SW hire has hit his ceiling at Notre Dame, but continues to keep the program relevant)
2. Luke Fickell
3. James Franklin
4. Pats Fitzgerald
5. Kyle Whittingham
6. Chris Peterson

SW shoots for mid-high profile names with proven records, that are generally not in discussion at the time, UNLESS there is a glaring candidate ie: Jimbo Fisher TAMU (they all clamored for him), Kim Mulkey (LSU fit), [cannot put Chris Peterson in this category, because no one believed he would leave]

How in the hell do all you idiots making lists keep leaving Matt Campbell’s name off?

Napier will be the guy. Mid-level success at a regional school. Won’t break the bank and will get LSU back to perennial Outback bowl contender status.

I know we are all LSU fans here so our judgement is clouded. But he isn’t leaving ND for LSU. That would be a big step down for him with regard to prestige and at least the perception of the job.

Besides, he killed a student and ND did nothing.

I’m not necessarily advocating for BK, but I think it makes a lot of sense and fits with Woodward’s hiring history.

Chris Petersen is the best option and Woodward hired him in Washington

I don’t think he will either, but I definitely disagree about the step down. It’s definitely a lateral move, but not in terms of possible achievement. Everyone knows BK (or anyone for that matter) can’t win a national title at Notre Dame as the program has a ceiling in modern CFB…They’re simply at a competitive disadvantage to power SEC and Big10 teams. He may want to play in the big leagues and win a title in his career, which isn’t possible at Notre Dame.

Nick Saban - mid level guy at second fiddle state school

Les Moles - mid level guy at second fiddle state school

Ed - position coach at DA FLAGSHIP

Napier fits the model. He will be the guy once O steps down at the end of the year.

And I remember a 2007 Cincinnati sports talk radio interview with him where they asked if he though Les would go to Michigan and his response was “of course. Not only is it his alma mater but you have Michigan… one of the most storied programs in the country… and you have LSU. What do YOU think he’s going to do? What does he owe THOSE people down there.”

I’ve despised Kelly ever since.

Are you familiar with Scott Woodward at all?

1000% agree. The guy's had multiple NFL HC job offers. Built a good program out of nothing at a shithole like Iowa State. I think he'd kill it here. Checks all the right boxes except for lack of recruiting ties in the south. But neither did Saban before he got here.

I'd be ecstatic with either Fickell or Campbell.

What about Sonny Dykes? Proven record at smaller schools. Texas recruiting base. Spent time in Louisiana.

Billy Napier
Luke Fickell
Bill O'Brien

Three great choices.

Recruiting ties help but you get guys on staff for that. If a coach can recruit it doesn’t matter about ties.

Funny. Let’s see, who won the national championship in 2007?
