First and foremost, our product on the field and even off the field at times is bad.

We lack coaching, recruiting, discipline. Please don’t take the following question as a defense of O.

I’ll pose the same question I posed when people called for Les Miles head.

We expect the following:
10+ wins a year
Top tier bowl appearance in down years
SEC title every 2-4 years
Beat Saban every other year
National title contention every recruiting cycle

Who is that? We have expectations that are higher than giraffe pussy. Which coaches currently meet that criteria? Last time we picked the D line coach. The wheels are falling off now.

Lot of random names thrown out here that don’t come close to those measurables.

We also expect the following

Not to go 5-5 in SEC play
Not to lose to middle of the road Power 5 schools
Not be unranked

I could go on.

Clearly CEO has this program going in the wrong direction.

So you don't think we should hire a new head football coach, despite that our current coach is completely fricking unprepared, has a team that is completely unmotivated, gets out coached every single week and has off the field issues, because people were also unhappy with Miles because he never evolved offensively? Do I have that right.

frick fans like you.

Not sure who the next HC should be.

But what’s a bigger gamble, hiring coach X or keeping O?

I don’t even care about this so much right now. Saban is pushing 70. He can’t coach forever.

I want a guy who can get the maximize the potential of our talent, win consistently and not embarrass the school off the field.

The rest will take care of itself.

A guy that can set up LSU to be the premier program in the SEC the second Saban retired.

I think a lot of fans would temper expectations with a decent product on the field.

You’re either illiterate or an emotional idiot.

My point is when we decide to go a different direction, best be real careful about which direction that is.

We have the highest of expectations. Clearly we chose poorly last time.

If we have the expectations you suggest then Coach O was far from the ideal candidate.

But I have confidence in Woodward to make a good hire.

Yes we will go in a different direction. The person that we hire will probably not be who half of the fan base wants and there will be melting. Rinse and repeat. This is how things go.

IMO, keeping O is a bigger risk.

But I like to face the facts. We expect whomever it is that replaces him to move mountains. Who is the man who can hit those measurables?

Not a lot of resumes line up with that.

Drop the straw man nonsense about Saban and make it just 4 years on the SEC title and you have the real expectations. Which incidentally, Kirby Smart is managing at Georgia despite consistently woeful offenses, proving that you don’t need to be perfect even in the Saban era to accomplish these things.

2018 LSU should be the baseline expectation. 2017 LSU should be the floor.
2019 LSU… well that’s never happening again, but we could have been less than 2019 and won a title that year. That’s the ceiling.
2020 LSU you could forgive due to COVID but 2021 LSU is inexcusable with no end in sight.

O isn’t on the hot seat because he can’t beat Saban every other year.

We’re 6-6 in our last 12 SEC games and look like shite this year despite returning like 16 starters.

That’s pretty much the point I was making here.

Having better than 500 seasons. Having a top 25 team. I don’t personally think there is quite enough to fire him just yet but 2 more losses in the regular season would do it for me and I don’t think we have the horses to make it through the season with only 1 more loss. It’s obvious he is feeling it now and was playing not to lose the last two games so unless something drastic happens he will be gone or should be IMO.

It can always be worse. Coach O isn’t even the worst coach in LSU history (although he’s up there).

The OP’s point is valid. Replace “keeping O” with “keeping Les” in your post and it’s exactly what people were saying in 2015/2016. There needs to be an actual search and a viable target this time.

No, you're just a fricking idiot and this is a dumb frick thread. We don't have anything to do with the search. We don't have to be careful about anything. That is Woodward's job.

O is a gigantic embarrassment to the university and our football program. He needs to go. End of story.

Those are still the expectations that we should have. CoachO has failed to live up to those expectations in three of his four full seasons (not counting this year since the season isn’t over and it’s theoretically possible that CoachO and the team could turn it around and win ten games and make a NY6 bowl). Even though 2019 was an amazing and possibly the greatest season of all time; it doesn’t offset the facts that LSU has not lived up to expectations during 75% of hus seasons as head coach.

Thank you for making my point. Took you a minute to get there, but some people have to take a little time to sound out the words.
