News of note on LSU vs State

The Advocate reported that on Wednesday, Coach O went into the Oline room and asked “Who’s going to be our left tackle”.BR paper noted that with the loss of Dare Rosenthal to Kentucky and the fact that LSU’s young linemen have played poorly in their outings, Coach O was challenging them wanting know to know who will step up?
Also the paper noted that with the return of Jay Ward it should improve the secondary. It was after his injury in the 1st quarter that Ga transfer Major Burns came in. On the very next play Burns allowed UCLA to score on 75 yard TD catch and run, a play where Burns seemed less than robust.
The paper noted that most LSU fans would say, “But Ward looked bad against State last year” a game where LSU gave up an SEC record 632 passing yards. Fans forget that Ward was just two weeks removed from meniscus surgery and hadn’t been able to practice.
I would just like to share this with all of the LSU fans who say LSU should never ever lose to State, fire O if he does. Before many of you were born, there was a four year stretch where Miss State owned LSU with a QB named John Bond. And it wasn’t like LSU didn’t have elite talent on defense to stop Bond, they had All NFL pro Dlineman Leonard Marshal and others.
Back in those days college QB’s weren’t nearly as protected as they are now. LSU’s players did everything they could legal and otherwise to stop Bond, and for four straight years they simply couldn’t and loss, and loss, and loss.
This dude probably didn’t weigh 190 lbs wet, but he took everything LSU could dish out and kicked our #ss. It might be three years, but it seemed like an eternity in hell to those who witnessed it. I, like many other fans, think the Tigers win, they have all the talent to crush State. But LSU also had the talent to beat Bond. Some of us have learned over these long years, you just never know with State or Ole Miss. Geaux Tigers.
Updated news on Stingley, he’s questionable which generally means it’s a game time decision. And to those who think these were the declining years. LSU was really good, good enough to beat Bear Bryant and Alabama on the road in Tuscaloosa but could not beat State with John Bond on any field.

It all boils down to defensive strategy and the will to win by the players to revenge last year's sorry performance.

There was also a time when we were owned by basically everybody. Times have changed. Outside bama, nobody has had the success we’ve had. We are way more talented and they aren’t anything special whatsoever. There is no excuses, outside piss poor coaching, for losing this kind of game.

Us ole timers learned it didn’t matter how good LSU was that season, whose #sses they kicked, when it came to State and Ole Miss, weird shite happened. There’s no logical reason for a 190 lb QB to survive repeated hits by 320 lb Leonard Marshal and others in a dog pile.

TTT, unfortunately I do o remember well, I got married in 82 and couldn't wait to bring wife to her first LSU GAME ! I told her she was going to freak out at how loud it would be... Bond blew us up, they were pumped, & the crowd was dead right after we could see we would lose, which was the "1st quarter". My wife was like, I thought you said it got loud, the Oiler games (wife lived in Houston) were way louder than this ! Still pisses me off thinking about it !

What makes you think he’s a go?

And I’m old enough to know that weird shite is capable of happening in any LSU/Saints game. There have been numerous of times in my 30+ years of watching where I say to myself “only to LSU and the saints does crap like this happen”. My point is we’re way more talented than Miss st is right now and have been for just over 20yrs. When they’ve beaten us recently it’s been bc of coaching.

That's a coaching error then. He shouldn't have played

Stingley thinking of opting out or hurt again?

Stingley is like nearly all of LSU’s players who are nicked, after playing 3 games, UCLA, McNeese, and Central Michigan. Not sure why that’s the case, but I’d bet my family picture with Joe Burrow that Stingley plays . It is Survival Saturday, it’s a must win. Maybe if LSU loses, more players will sit out a game.
