When national news finally shines the light on you, I guess the heat gets a little higher. Not that it matters. The Destroya is a shoe in for election but still...

NBC News

quote:

Metro Service Group, a contractor obligated to service more than 65,000 customers in New Orleans, faces the most trouble addressing the situation. The company blames a nationwide worker shortage during the coronavirus pandemic for the lack of sanitation workers, specifically drivers. The issue, it says, is further compounded by Hurricane Ida’s scattering New Orleans workers outside the city.

quote:

The main target of much of the city’s ire is Metro Service Group, which won a seven-year contract at about $10 million a year in 2017 to manage the city’s trash. Cantrell has said she’s open to rebidding the contract, but Green said finding a new contractor isn’t a fast solution and wouldn’t help resolve the crisis.

“We do not care who the contractor is — we want the trash picked up,” Green said. “Rebidding down the line? Absolutely. Absolutely we are looking at that.”

Jimmie Woods, the company’s owner, said Friday during a hearing before the New Orleans City Council that “we have made several passes through every street” and asserted that people who had missed trash pickup were those who had evacuated for a long time because of Hurricane Ida.

Also, just in case y'all haven't pointed it out yet, Jimmie Woods is on the LSU Board of Supervisors. Searching for his education history, I'm fairly certain he doesn't hold an LSU diploma (or at least it's not readily searchable) and possibly may not have a college degree at all... which is of course who you want on your university's BoS.

Nola’s trash issue is deeper than the physical trash, I’m afraid…

But do they have a position of Director of Cultural Economy with a salary pushing 6 figures?

As bad as all of these mounting problems have become, a part of me is actually glad that so many issues are manifesting very close to the mayoral election.

Unfortunately, however, none of Latoya's competitors have called her out on anything. I mean if not now, when?

It's utterly frustrating and downright depressing that the city has essentially accepted the fact that Latoya will win re-election.

It's equally depressing that LSU puts non-college graduates on their fricking Board of Supervisors. I honestly cannot fathom this. fricking joke arse university is a joke and will remain one forever.

You mean the same person that somehow won a multi-million dollar contract with the city of NOLA, but can’t uphold his end of the contract, also has the political connections to be appointed to a university BOS.

I can understand this premise. You'd think that the people appointed to run a university would themselves have a university/college degree.

However, in theory, I'm not outright opposed to a non-college graduate being on the board - particularly a person with high-level business management and/or executive experience. But, that assumes that the state senate does a diligent job of vetting each person that the governor appoints.

Of course. And now with Texas coming into the SEC, prepare for any sliver of academic legitimacy we've had (which honestly, is extremely low anyway)to diminish even more. Just for the lolz of it, every one of their members has not only a college degree, but one from UT. LINK

But here we are.. the joke of the south with fricking non-college grads on the BOS.

Was this the story where the company was newly created and didn't even own any trucks when they won the bid? If so there was a thread on it here but I may be thinking of something else more recent than 2017.

That story was well written and makes New Orleans look like a total embarrassment.

Nguyen was at the trash rally/parade in the rain on Saturday AM campaigning. The competitors dont have a public platform or outlet to have their voice heard.

Nguyen seems batty as a fruitcake.

I still can't wait to cast a vote for her.
