But as the showrunner has said, this is a 14 book series and a prequel. And it’s finished. They are adapting Wheel of Time not individual books.
Whoa... that's a shite load of content to condense. I'm glad I haven't read any of the books and will be going in with pretty much zero knowledge of the story b/c that seems like a recipe for pissing the book fans off big time.

Most book readers - at least the vocal ones online - understand shite is going to get mixed around, cut, merged, etc. It is actually going to start off with Season 1 being very different in a lot of ways for various production reasons.
The first 3 books had kind of similar trajectories and in closings so they are most likely ramping up some storylines to be antagonists, moving some antagonists up slightly in the timeline and doing some other-things to not give too much away too soon in regards to certain story elements (those are just my opinions from having followed the production fairly closely over the last couple years).
They have a some positives going for them in that (1) the showrunner is a childhood fan (2) they hired a sort of book research person who is able to answer questions, present text as answers in how characters should be and (3) the author's wife / editor of the series and Brandon Sanderson who finished the series out are both being used in production as well.
The teaser trailer had a lot of little hints and nods to the books that only readers would notice which makes it seems like they really know the characters well.

Not only that, the word and page count is enormous. I believe it is the largest series by word count. It’s pretty damn huge. A lot of fluff though.
As Sneaky Sally said without getting into detail, while Mat is everyone’s favorite character, he’s pretty much not “Mat” until Book 3. He’s almost an entirely different character so of course the fans are laughing about this a bit because it’s very on brand
