So after some calls from USF faithful and one from administration, the subject we are debating has multiple layers. First the "Black-Owned Food Truck Rally" was created to offer business owners an opportunity to showcase their wares at Ray Jay during a game. This luxury isn't given to everyone and the idea of doing this promotion for the FAMU game created a narrative that wasn't clear. Depending on what caught your attention things may vary on what made the post so debatable and its intended message not easy to understand. So, the rally was created in an effort to give vendors some play at Ray Jay. Black vendors. Former USF players were given the opportunity to participate. That gave it some juice...The opponent is FAMU and that gave the campaign a ethnic look much broader. So, there should be an A-plus grade for USF for the idea of inclusion and offering folks a way to get some Ray Jay business, especially minority food truck owners. The big mistake was using the name "Black-Owned Food Truck Rally" as the lead title. That grade is an F... It's almost like creating a form of publicity and forcing people to understand something without proper explanations...I stand by my earlier response but also wanted to share some insight as to how this all came about

As a black USF graduate and former All-American (hoops) I find this post questionable and I'm not sure what the message is? Supporting former Bulls, ok. Giving acknowledgement to Black- Owned business, ok. Back story is the opponent is Florida A & M, a school that represents blackness to the fullest. Who are we trying to satisfy? In this situation I think the idea might offend other ethnic food providers. And certainly rub some hard working white food providers the wrong way. I'm all for doing the right thing regarding fair play in business opportunities and its distribution, but this seems a bit tainted

Hilarious to me that the word black is what bothers people to this day. “What about white history month” “Where’s the white entertainment television” “What about black privilege” same arguments every time. While completely neglecting the fact that statistically it is harder for a minority to start a business, obtain funding, and maintain said business. And don’t even get me started on the decades of people who made sure it was nearly impossible for them to start their own at all. These businesses should be highlighted. And I’m sure if it said “veteran owned” or “female owned” the response would be much different. Embrace the culture, or continue with the same trend your grandparents (yes, they were around when things were still actually segregated and could very well have contributed to your way of thinking) have developed. Much support to USF for allowing these business to shine.
