Removing a security tag?

My wife bought a big arse rug at Ross and they didn't catch the security tag on there. I do not want to roll it back up and go back to the store, is there am easy way to remove this damn thing at home?

Magnets in the right places. Or cut the plastic off the round button to expose the catch mechanism and release the metal rod.

Why would there be a security tag on a big arse rug? You can't exactly sneak it out of the store. And it obviously didn't activate any alarms or they would have come over and taken it off, right?
