Its one of the oldest (some say oldest) family run restaurants in the United States.

It has a bunch of rooms with displays of various things (mostly mardi gras royalty stuff), and you can take tours of it.

The menu is very old school stuff and is somewhat worth it for experience but the food is very average.

They did invent Baked Alaska and that is a very good dessert. Its really more of a tourist experience all around.

Gautreau's blows it out the fricking water food wise. A very very good restaurant in a nice setting.

Great description. In all but maybe a dozen other cities in the US Antoine's would be a top 10 restaurant in that city. In New Orleans its just a slightly above average meal at that price point, especially for a small table.

Will add, the front bar (Hermes Bar) is legit. And the restaurant is not bad for a big group (say 15 plus people) curated menu lunch/dinner in one of the private rooms (assuming your group isn't bothered by all of the old white people on walls pretending to be royalty, don't ask how I know).
