Everyone who needs gas at $3 a gallon will still need to buy it at $5. The lines will not disappear with higher prices.

Should we have the government set the prices for all products?

The actual store should have stepped up and placed a limit.

I watched people buy the TP and walk back in to buy more

If you have 200 gallons of gas left at your station until the next fuel delivery and 20 people are in line, what's the best way to ensure that everyone gets enough to make it to the next day?

A. Jack up the price to $6/gallon.

Or

B. Limit quantity pumped to 10 gallons per car.

If it's my business? The answer is A every time.

And the ones that can’t afford will riot and take from those who can, you know let them eat cake.

This take reminds me of the "give criminals $300 a month so they won't shoot people" program San Francisco is rolling out. Let's base our policy on appeasing certain people so they don't commit crimes.

The incentive is that you can have the tanker sold in one day and bring another tomorrow and repeat for a couple weeks probably. In Tennessee you will be at normal demand and sell your one tank every week or two compared to the one tank a day in Louisiana.

The tank is sold before the driver even heads that direction, and he doesn't wait for that gas to land in cars tanks before returning home to get more.

But then I understand how low income would be hurt and necessities would only be for the rich.

Why you hate capitalism, baw?

It’s a straw man argument. Rich people aren’t unnecessarily hoarding goods. Rich people already have a whole home generator or they rented a diesel generator/welding machine before the storm. If not, they already filled up on enough gas and goods to last them enough time to decide whether to stay to wait for utilities to return or leave for an unaffected area.

Rich people are not surprised by a storm and standing in line with poor people waiting for gas or food. Rich people are not living paycheck to paycheck and dependent on the instant availability of goods.

You might, more accurately, replace “rich” with “responsible” and “poor” with “irresponsible”, but that doesn’t tug on the ole heartstrings as much, does it?

Agreed, that wasn't the point. Someone said what's the point of selling it in Louisiana vs anywhere else. The point is Louisiana is going through a lot more volume/supply right now. More money is being made by pushing more volume than normal even without changing the price. The price can also easily be raised and probably has. That is not considered price gouging, that's just the fair market value.
