Explanation I heard a day or 2 ago was they are worried the commercial jets will get targeted by isis after takeoff. The military planes all have some sort of evasive capability. Not saying that is actually the case but that is what was said by one of the generals I think earlier in the week.

They don’t want people to try to leave because it would make their deaths “messy” if they were targeted.
