FCS Weekly Thread Week 0

Hopefully this season will be a regular season and there will not be any interruptions or cancellations. Usually I will post the weekly poll and then through the week post stats, articles, and other information. Towards the end of the week I will post some games and predictions of the experts and some of mine.
Will use the STATS or Analyst poll as it is the most voted in and longest used poll in the country. But at times I will post some others to show the bias that some of the CAA and eastern teams get. After the 5th or 6th week will use a standard 24 team tournament with current conference leaders, will not move teams due to regions either, just a straight S curve. When posting the poll I will bold the MVC and SLC teams. Will also italicize the SWAC louisiana teams as well. Will gladly take any contributions or suggestions through the year.
1 Sam Houston 39 1228
2 James Madison 8 1180
3 South Dakota State 3 1156
4 North Dakota State 1116
5 Delaware 1017
6 Weber State 927
7 Southern Illinois 888
8 North Dakota 886

New facilities look great. Happy for the school to improve and hopefully continue to draw competitive talent.

Sam Houston, SFA, Abilene Christian and Lamar all left the Southland for the WAC. Central Arkansas moved to the ASUN Conference.

Actually they are really an independent this year in football in FCS but due to them playing some SLC games I am including them as SLC.
I forgot UCA moved to the Sun, I just spaced on that one.

SLU going to end up making a deep, deep run. Cole Kelly will repeat for the Walter Payton.

I like seeing Coach Rebowe have success.

I am not sure yet I think they hit the perfect storm...They have 2 QB's from FBS now one played at Utah started in the bowl but then left to Utah St and then came to SMS. They have a decent Defense but it is not a big front, so SDSU and NDSU will probably maul them

SHSU are WAC members now. They aren't playing any Southland opponents this season. The SLC forced the 4 Texas schools out a year early and, as of July 1 this year, they became members of the WAC. The WAC and ASUN formed an alliance this season that will allow them an automatic qualifier into the playoffs. The 7 playoff eligible teams are being called "the AQ7" by the 2 leagues.
- Central Arkansas (ASUN)
- Eastern Kentucky (ASUN)
- Jacksonville State (ASUN)
- Abilene Christian (WAC)
- Lamar University (WAC)
- Sam Houston (WAC)
- Stephen F. Austin (WAC)
- Dixie State (WAC) *not eligible for playoffs
- Tarleton (WAC) *not eligible for playoffs
The Southland Conference left themselves scrambling for a scheduling solution when they forced the Texas schools out early. For 2021, teams will play 8 conference games against the other 5 football members meaning they will have 3 home-and-home opponents and 2 others they'll only play once each. So the SLC schedule for Nicholls looks like this:
vs Houston Baptist
vs Southeastern Louisiana
@ Incarnate Word
@ Houston Baptist
vs Northwestern St
@ McNeese
vs Incarnate Word
@ Southeastern Louisiana

Also, you forgot to bold Nicholls in the rankings post.

What exactly is the plan for these schools moving forward? I found the WAC and A-Sun moves bizarre.
Neither league has established football, so if you want to start something new, why not just start a new league?
Is the plan to use NMSU and Liberty’s status as FBS schools to leverage your way into the FBS?
I don’t understand Jacksonville State or Sam Houston joining conferences filled with basketball schools.

I really don’t know the end game. I don’t THINK that the WAC move is rooted in moving to FBS. Tarleton and Dixie St are new Division I programs while Abilene Christian didn’t make the move that long ago. I’m a bit baffled myself. It’s possible there were some conference politics that played a part, but I’d be lying if I said I knew anything like that for sure.
Jacksonville St is an interesting decision. I don’t believe it’s a much better situation, geographically speaking.

Is the wac fcs or fbs???
It wasn’t all that long ago (20 years or so before the formation of the mwc) they were the best D1-A non-power conference.

No they are in the WAC. I literally go there. They are playing a full schedule with the teams fielding a football team in conference.

The WAC does having plans of eventually moving up
