Jeff Bridges has some amazing shots from movies he has been in. He is a pretty damn good photographer.

Not 100% on topic, but I just saw this one when I was down a rabbit hole of youtube videos of rare pics of celebs (at least I hadn't seen it before):
Conan O'Brien at Harvard, pre-fame, 1984. Bonus fact: The picture was taken by John Candy.

Matthew Modine has a ton of pics from Full Metal Jacket (just a taste):

The young and usually ice-cool Greta Garbo seems a bit uncomfortable in this publicity shot with the MGM lion.

from his book .... Full Metal Jacket Diary. Great read and obviously a tons of photos from his experiences making the film in London. Expensive and out of print, but a great addition to any library.

speaking of FMJ .... I think the decision to build Vietnam on a backlot in London did not benefit the look of the film. You can put all the Vietnamese signage up you want, but it looks fake.

Saigon looked like a city.
The battle scenes were supposed to be of the Battle of Hue - another large city.
You're aware that Vietnamese cities don't look like triple canopy jungle, right?
Real Saigon 1968:
Real Battle of Hue:
What are your additional questions?

actually yes. I have filmed in Saigon and am prepping a film set in 1968 war torn Vietnam currently. So pretty deep into building sets like these and of course lots of research over the years.. just saying those sets didn't breath the reality say like 'saving private ryan' or '1917' that built out the destruction on location. I read the Modine book and am keenly aware of why they shot in London.

And have traveled to Hue ... which has density to it along the river where a good deal of the action happened. FMJ clearly looks built on an open lot with maybe a building or two in the background. Great film -- just I think suffers from the reality of its street fighting backgrounds.
For instance we are building the US Embassy on a soccer field in Bangkok .... the enormity of production value background is key and takes you off of the backlot. (unless you have more money and time than what's usually given).

How did John Wayne go through life and not have contempt for every other man?
Look at these peons who hold their manhood cheap.
