1) because the USA hasn't fought a total war since WWII

2) because since the 60s, feelings have become more important than facts

3) because now everyone gets a trophy

Mine from a different thread, its not complex.... you have two options if the population does not surrender.

We can’t win wars because we don’t actually try to win them.

For some reason our government and MIC are happy to be in a perpetual state of war but have no interest in doing what it takes to win them

And what really kills me is that every US serviceman that has been killed in combat since WWII has basically died for absolutely nothing.

IMO, if we are going to send our kids overseas to die, we better send them with a plan for total and complete victory. Otherwise why are they there?

Rules of Engagement hold us back. Playing by rules that no other country plays by especially guerilla type warfare puts the US behind from the beginning. We are not ruthless enough. You’ve got to be mean and hard to defeat that type of people and don’t look back in disgust at what you are capable of doing. Do what is necessary.

what article did you get that from?? I read something like that from a guy yesterday. Wanted to post his article but cannot find it.

He summed it up as:

in a backwards shithole like asscrackistan you either defeat enemy and GTFO...if shite starts up again you go in again and pummel them some more.

But he said if you even want to entertain the thought of nation building you must kill almost every living thing there and start over from scratch.

which we did not have the intestinal fortitude to do. Therefore we shoulda never even tried to nation build.

There is no collective Afghanistan. There are only tribal segments.
The US gave the country enough time, training, and infrastructure to remain a free state. If the people there truly wanted to remain unified, they could have.

It is clear that after both Russian and US attempts, that Afghanistan cannot be made into an independent, communist/democratic society. The only way would have been to separate it into individual nation states.

We should support those people that helped us while we were there and not leave them to die.
But, our time of trying to transform the middle east should be over.

Because the Politicians wont let them
The news stations wont keep their mouth shut about things
The public is too squeamish to allow for it, they do not like ground combat just fly around like Star Wars type things.

Those are my words but parts of it could be framed from parts of Sun Tzu The Art of War.

This lesson is just a repeat of The Crusades.

If you are not prepared to take mass parts by extermination of the population by invading, and the population doesn't conform to your will... what other choice is there?

Eventually, you lose.

If these clowns were in charge, it never would have gotten that far.

We would have cut and run and left Hawaii to the Japanese before sunset on June 7,1941.

The media will never allow our military to do what needs to be done to achieve victory.

1) In order to win a war, you must have a clear objective to accomplish.

We have not been in a war since 1945. These have been policing actions. It's not simply a shift in using the term "police action" instead of "war." Police actions have no objective goal. They are endless use of approved force in order to maintain order. Eventually there is no more desire to remain in a region or conflict because new interests arise on other horizons. IF all these conflicts in which we have been involved since the fall of China to communism in 1949 and the Korean War from 1950-53 were to be categorized as wars, then the US government needs to be called front and center to answer some questions. Primary among these questions is "Why did congress fail to make a declaration of war?" Followed by "Since when does the Constitution allow Congress to delegate its duties regarding the power to declare war to the Executive branch?"

The War Powers Act is essentially unconstitutional, like so many other things regarding our current federal government are.

There's a lot to be said along these lines, but I'm not in the mood to write an entire book on the subject, nor do I think anyone here would care to read such a tome.
