Defense Department Plans to Spend a Small Fortune Studying Pond Turtles

Unfortunately this isn't at all unheard of.
Former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn (RIP) used to release his annual wasteful spending report and there were some perplexing expenditures.
I remember they spent something like $275k on a program to develop a camera-equipped, robotic squirrel to spy on the mating habits of the northern starling or some ridiculous shite.
There's an undeniable bottom line... if you want to see an entity waste more money than is possibly imaginable, take a look at the United States government. We should be livid about this, in the streets with pitchforks* but we do nothing.
