paul allen's response doesn't count since he used Port Of Call.

You made a funny...good job.
If one cannot see the difference between top 10 favorite restaurant and top restaurants in the city, then I just feel bad for you.
PaulAllen, I like a lot on the list...GW Fins and Mr. B's are two of my favorites as well. The latter's gumbo is the best in the city.

whats with the infatuation with Herbsaint?

Brunings was the shite. I miss that place so much (Sidmars too).

I would sacrifice ten, no, 100 meals at Galatoire's if I could get a whole fried flounder on the deck at Brunings again.

Don't know what you're missing till its gone. I think we ate there at least once every month for as far back as I can remember.

I almost included Sushi Brothers...I ate there again and it is great sushi at really low prices.
Liuzza's By the track is the shite...

Alright, I'm VERY particular about food and service and everything else involved in a meal. I grew up with chefs and to this day are surronded by some of the best in the city when I hang out. My old roomate is the head Banquet Chef at Pat Os, used to be a soux a Commanders, still know a bunch of Commanders chefs and some of the guys I know probably cooked a meal for ya before because I've seen you mention their restuarants.
1) Commanders-because of Brunch, if you've never been then you need to go
2) August-a Besh masterpiece
3) Dick and Jennys-where else can you get in shorts and T shirt and eat a meal as great as theirs?
4) Mat and Naddies-tucked away along river road. A great place to bring a date
5) Jacqimos- It's loud, and you'll wait but if your bringing tourist to town, this is what New Orleans is about
6) Kyoto- THE POKE SALAD is probably the best salad in the city for the price
7) Dragos- The fat city location, it makes the list because of charbroiled oysters which is still the best 1 bite of food in the city!
8) Five Happiness-great food, great lunch specials, and they have probably the best Hot & Sour Soup
9) Galitoires-pricey and a place to be seen but it has history and the food is great
10) Tujagues-location, 2nd oldest restuarant in NOLA, ever had their duck?, and their gumbo is a legit cajun gumbo!

I love Herbsaint...they mix a great cocktail too, Lester. I have always had great meals there...it almost didnt make the list though because the last time I went he had packed in like 10 more tables into an already cramped room.

I, too, miss Brunings. And with a distinct lack of eating-out fundage, I don't get to go to all the places I'd like. When I was young, my parents took me to places, many times only once, yet they still have a hold on my memory. So, my top ten will be a list of current and once-upon-a-time favorites.
Commanders' Palace
Galatoire's
Crescent City Steak House
Brennan's
Drago's
Bruning's
Nine Roses
Ye Olde College Inn (at the old location, RIP)
Bertucci's (family place in Harvey--great turtle soup)
That's nine.
Honorable mentions/tie:
Parkway Bakery
Liuzza's by the Track
Mo's Pizza
New York Pizza.
