NIL - are there rules that would prevent these events from happening?

Are there any rules in place to stop #1 and #2 below?

1. Top QB at one program moves to another because more NIL money is available.

While you can build a program using NIL money, you could also hurt your number one competitor's program by pirating key players.

2. An exceedingly wealthy booster (e.g. T. Boone Pickens at OSU) comes in and sets up companies to acquire NIL rights from players at high rates.

Is anything in place (or proposed) that would keep players from moving team to team based on NIL money?

Or, are they "free agents" every year?

Nope. It's a free for all currently.

Once the SEC leaves the NCAA and bans its member schools from playing out of conference- no top players will want to play outside of the SEC.

Why would the one-time transfer portal rule care why you are transferring? No one has to say why.

Are you paying even a little attention to college football?

It seems like the SEC is about to become a super conference.

Thanks for confirming my understanding of the current system. It will be interesting to see how NIL money affects the use of the transfer portal.

Keep in mind these are legal adults who are protected under labor laws. Any legal adult can move around and make money from his/her labor, and should be able to.

Why laugh at him? Isn’t that what we are doing now? All schools are essentially hiring these guys for a minor league football team?
Isn’t that what this is all about to be?

If they break from the ncaa with a mega sec why would players need to go to class at all? Or only have to play four years? Play six play eight. We are making the rules as we go.

People on this board are only excited because LSU has the money to be one of the rich getting richer.

Lots of college Athletes about to get a lesson in taxes! This would kill the Ivy League and higher tuition school programs.

This whole NIL was brought upon by ridiculous high coaches salary… some of these coaches are complete idiots … of course kids where finally going to want to get paid… boosters going to love this too… no longer will they have to deal with the coach or his minions for access to players…

Literally none of this is correct.

They should. Including food, stipend, and other expenses they have covered.

It's a scholarship. Do your kids get a 1099 for their scholarship money? How about for TOPS? That is the comparison, Not what the schools or the kids get from it.

NIL money will require reporting to the IRS.

Chad Morris was probably the worst coach in college football history and made $14 million or so to get fired.

But yeah players are amateurs and shouldn't make any money off the billion dollar industry they generate. I love the NIL, it's the most American thing that's happened in 2021.

No it’s not. They are suppose to be amateurs. If you want to be an amateur athlete then you don’t get compensated. Hell they never should have been given scholarships. Then they started giving them priority housing, priority scheduling, the best meal plan + exclusive dining, free clothing and medical care. They got all those benefits that weren’t extended to any other students and still complained. Then they started getting those “CoL stipends”, which was essentially a salary (that they didn’t have to pay taxes on) from the school of $300-700 a month and they still complained.

I’m going to my laugh my arse off when some nutsack has to explain to his used car salesman pimp why he got cut from the roster in summer camp because he spent too much time doing shite off the field/court and now has to transfer 7 hours away just to compete for playing time.

You wanted to be professionals, well now you are going to get treated like them. I don’t give a frick about your mental issues or your feelings. You show up and perform or your arse gets cut. Welcome to the real world, you wanted it.
