I have an 2006 optimax 90. Has low compression and won’t run. Mechanic quoted $8k to replace powerhead. I asked about a rebuild and they said they don’t do that, but Quoted $11k for new motor with a 6month delivery. What do y’all think?

Is $8k is overpriced?

Worth trying to rebuild?

Buy new motor?

Currently planning to call around for better pricing.

Buy a new motor. They're never the same once they frick up once.

If you dont identify and correct what broke it the first time itll happen again anyway.

Sell it as a parts motor. Buy new.

A 90hp outboard itself shouldn't be $11k but with labor and some rigging it could be that much. I would not recommend paying $8k to rebuild an old optimax.

Waste of money.

New motors are stupid expensive, but they come with a warranty.
