I'd probably pump the brakes on calling the wave "over".
But deaths have not ticked up noticeably. If you're vaccinated you're not going to die from it, if you're unvaccinated you're probably not going to die from it (though there are a lot of fatties down there).

Weak arse wave.
If the vaccines are as effective as claimed then one would expect a smaller wave.

Or that cases are spiking in states with lower vaccination levels (like Louisiana).

And the death rates and hospitalization rates aren't matching previous "waves". I know those lag but they're both well below similar caseloads in previous waves.

This thread looks like a solid well ager.

50% of the counties/parishes across the country are at a High level of community transmission according to the CDC. Another 17% are at the Substantial level.
People keep talking about individual states like Louisiana, but outside of New England, the country has a serious issue with COVID right now.

I’d also like to point out that any mild increases in deaths could strictly be people dying WITH covid.
For a thought experiment, imagine covid is 100% asymptomatic in everyone. If we went through a wave where it increased in the population and tested every single person in the hospital, we would say more deaths with covid have occurred.
Obviously some people are dying from covid but this is why it’s almost criminal that we don’t have a better way to quantify from or with covid

We had a suite ton ER covids today.

I wish my insurance covered an ER suite
ETA
Serious question
Do you go to your regular Dr for suspected Covid / test or do they tell you to go to ER / Urgent Care?
My PCP is for wellness visits / medication refills only
If I am sick I know to go to Urgent Care because there is no way they are fitting me in
Curious if most are like that or if it’s just that way since OLOL bought out my PCP

That chart ends on the 26th. Seems like the lag in reporting could give a false sense of a downfall.

For reference, here is how the Rt looked it the UK for Delta
Posted on 7/28/21 at 6:31 pm to lsupride87
Looking at that UK curve it looks like they have it filtered way too slow for handling Delta, which is good news for Louisiana.
R(t) falling, but still above 1, would mean cases are still increasing, just increasing more slowly.
UK clearly below 1 right now and for the past week or so.
