If this new SEC addition of OU and Texas occurs, re-alignment is essentially a given.

Getting OU and/or Texas, and possibly Mizzou, is nowhere close to as appealing as retaining our 3 Top rivals in this millennium.

No. Arkansas,Ole Miss and A&M do not sniff our top 3 rivals.

Of course, we could retain 1 or 2 of our current Top-3 rivals via cross division dynamics.

Who would y'all prefer to retain of the three, in order of your preference?

For me, it's
1) Bama
2) Auburn
3) Florida

At least we would be the big dogs in our pod.

Auburn is a goner. I'll bet we get one permanent between Bama and Florida and maybe both with Kentucky should it go to 3.

A&M, State, and Ole Miss would be a great pod for us as we should dominate that group. I suspect Texas and Aggie will be in a pod though so we may get paired with the Land Thieves.

With the expanded playoffs and the desire to keep the conf championship game, they need to dump the idea of any kind of division. Just lump everyone together, play 9 games, agree on three permanent rivals, play 6 revolving teams each year, and have a conference championship game with the top two teams.

You can't force the rivalry games. Fl will probably want GA, AU, and TN. There's a good chance AU would want AL, GA, and FL. Bama would want AU, TN, and I guess us. I would be happy with Bama, TX (OK if not, then A&M), and OM.

Nobody wants to kee Auburn. We will get Bama, OU and A&M (or Florida in place of A&M)

That’s three of the top five SEC football programs we would lose on a regular basis. As an LSU fan I would not like that.

Let it go. It's a new day if this happens. Cross-division rivals need to be let go. With the opportunity to fill the stadiums with Texas or Oklahoma or Alabama or LSU or Texas A&M or UGA fans is enough to be thinking about beings so restrictive. IMO, it's less tradition and more restrictive in the opportunity for a team to get to every opponent in 4 years.

From 1942 to 1992 LSU played Auburn 8 times. They aren’t LSU’s rival.

With the conference essentially being a merger of the SEC, Big 8, and SWC, if they are going to have permanent opponents, I want to keep tradition. That means Ole Miss, Miss St, and Bama. Unless I am mistaken, we didn't play Auburn or Florida yearly until 92.

Also, everyone is assuming pods means mini divisions. It doesn't necessarily mean that. I read an article from a couple of years back for the 14 team league. It worked for that scenario. I assume it works for 16. I am not arguing for us to permanently play A&M, just giving the example.

Keep in mind that Texas, Aggie, and Oklahoma together... as well as Bama, Tennessee, Auburn means that you'll likely need at least one permanent.

Texas will demand to play Aggie & Oklahoma annually.
Bama will demand to play Tennessee & Auburn annually.

No, because everyone in a pod has the same permanent rivals. Look at my example.

all care way more about other rivals than they do LSU

LSU's two biggest rivals are A&M and Ole Miss

You have to give your team a break from a super tough schedule. To me i would just want one and that is bama. I would not want to lose that game followed by florida

Only one team we play for a trophy, so I'd consider them main rivals.

That doesn't have to be true.

I agree, but an unstated objective with my proposal is to play everyone in the conference, home and away, in a four year period. That can't be done with more than 3 permanent rivals. And if you are not playing everyone in your pod, what's the point?

Of course pods can achieve the same thing, but it restricts rivalry options. My primary objection to pods is the need for more playoff games, and with the expanded playoff and the retaining of conference championship games, I think it's too much and unnecessary.
