A 14-team league is too large to determine a true league champion.

So 16 would water down the ability to determine a legitimate league champion even more.

Nothing really matters.

Anyone can see.

So then LSU was not the true 2019 conference champion?

I don’t think that’s the case. No one I know has ever questioned the validity of the SEC champ; it’s pretty straightforward. Would you say that LSU was only arguably the best team in the SEC in 2019? Or assuredly? Or bama in ‘20? Or Florida in ‘08?

I just don’t think this is the hill you want to die on with this issue.

Of course there are going to be years in which most can agree that one team in the league was better than the others. But over the long haul, the issue should be decided on the field; and when one team cannot play almost half the teams in its own league, by definition, you are not deciding the championship on the field.

I just don’t see it. I can’t remember a time in the past 15 years where it’s been questionable who the absolute best team in the conference was. Closest was maybe ‘17 when UGA and Bama went to overtime? But it was decided on the field, so there wasn’t much debate.

Plus, I can’t help but extrapolate this idea to the rest of the country. If everyone has to play everyone, you’ll have double the number of conferences with the same teams in them. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

And you would still never meet 5 or 6 league opponents on the field.

Your not playing 4 right now normally. 8 season games then league title game, so in 2019 LSU played 9 teams, 4 we did not play.

Ok, but that ship has sailed. Once we went to a playoff, this was inevitable, you have transfer portal (which is free agency) and now you have NIL. This is in effect semi-pro football, lets just call it what it is.

I don't where this goes but this is heading to 4 16 teams, but that might not even work. Are there really 64 legitimate big time brand football teams.

Regardless, in a 16 team SEC, and 12 team playoff, you are not going to have to win the SEC title to get in the the 12 team playoff. I can see the SEC getting 3 to 4 teams every year, and sometimes getting 5.

So anyone who still thinks the idea of Amateurism is still in college ball, that is done (it hasn't really been true for years anyway).

The team that wins the 16 team SEC gets an auto bid to the 12 team playoff, likely #1 seed. But other teams in a 16 team SEC are going to get in.

With every team you add to the conference, you're having the conference championship decided less on the field.

That is not the overriding factor. If the SEC leadership thought the way you do, this would not be going on. It is about money for TV and streaming rights. There will still be a Conference title game, but this is a setup for the 12 team playoff.

There was no way the SEC teams who have even without Texas, I think 6 of the top 15 brands, are going to let these other teams get into the playoff and only get 2 SEC teams in.

3 or 4 minimum every year, in some years, it will be 5.

That's just false. All of the games are decided on the field, the results of those games determine the division standings, and the two division winners decide the championship on the field. All of it is decided on the field.

You just have to hope your team gets 3rd place so you can get an extra week of rest without potential injury, game prep and an auto playoff seed?
