There's a house about a block away from where I live and the owner breeds pitbulls. About two years ago, one of them got out and attacked one dog, resulting in a punctured ear; and mauled a small dog, resulting in $5,000 in vet bills. The offending dindu ruffin was euthanized, the owner got off lightly only having to pay a fraction of the vet bills, and was ordered to not own any dogs on the property for a year.

A year has passed, and the dog pound has returned.

Saturday I was walking my dog, a large hound, and we passed by their yard. The pits ran the fence and barked as normal, except this time one smashed through a fence board and lunged at us, its head fully exposed as it worked to get out. Luckily it was too big and we quickly went on our way. There was a brief moment where I realized I would have to fight a pit bull, and while I am not a small man, it's not something I would want to do.

I guess I'm just venting because it seems not much can be done other than just waiting for one to get free and attack again, this time it could be a child, a woman, or an elderly person. My neighborhood is flush with people walking, biking, etc.

My wife won't be walking the dog anymore until I get her some bear mace. As for me, I'll be carrying something with a bit more bang. Also our walking route will be altered to avoid this house.

Just a damn shame in this nice neighborhood you have to arm up to walk your dog.

Carry a .45 and smoke the bastard if he gets through the fence. I hate pit bulls, people who breed them are trashy.

Sadly all this did was reveal a long history of problems with this house and as long as the pits are behind a fence, then nothing can be done. Multiple attacks, multiple law suits...nothing has been done.

Wish I could just drive my home away, but sadly it's a nice family neighborhood and that doesn't prevent someone from raising large, aggressive breeds.

I've met my fair share of friendly pits, but I hate this breed and wish it would be illegal to breed them. Just let them all die out in 10-15 years and be done with it.

Will never happen.

i’d be packing while walking my dog or at the very least toting a baseball bat. If the dog comes through the fence towards my dog i put the mongrel down.

i don’t care what type of dog it is. i do particularly despise pits and their trashy owners. but i’ve given a lab mix a swift kick to the face for running lose from its yard and aggressively approaching me and my dog on a leash.

don’t like it, keep your dog contained in a neighborhood.

I do understand what you're saying about the legal inability to deal with this, and as a dog owner myself I find it very hard to deal with this problem the other way.

BUT
There are times in this life where things are dealt with a certain way, and this is one of those times.

a gun, pepper spray, bear spray, tazer, or stun gun will all solve this problem. a small propane torch will also temporarily help. put some bear spray on that little bitch, and when he smells you from a block away he'll whine like a little girl. there's an experiment right there that will give you a good memory for years.

Throw a little poison in a shitty cut of steak and give that pit bull what it deserves.
