The government did that

By using its partnership/sponsorship of big tech monopolies as “private entities” to bypass our constitutional rights

No and I wish people would stop saying things like that. Communism is a real, reasonably well-defined and discreet danger and one we could face in the not to distant future. Claiming we're living in it when we're not will not help the eventual war against it and the groundwork being laid for it.

But Big Tech has allied with government to impose authoritarian and anti-truth elements that resemble aspects of communism, sure.

"This is a communist country" is an easy sound bite and I know why people do it. But sound bite style argument is doing more damage than good. It's the way to win an election. It's not a way to save a country or create a new republic or destroy the enemy.

No, but the potential for a dystopian reality are much higher if tech and government meld more.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Not a single person I know says this to win an election. They very much feel this after being silenced, banned, intimidated, seeing military knock on our doors pushing an injection, helplessly witnessing the coup of President Trump, etc.

One is “bound” by the constitution related to free speech. The other is not.

I’d argue both are if the government is working with these companies to introduce censorship measures.

So I ask again, what is the difference?

Well that's great but that's not what I'm talking about.

Taking something that is objectively "not communism" and calling it communism is a way to scare people into voting a certain way on the basis that communism is a dirty word and it's a short thing to say that requires no explanation. Hence, "soundbite" - it's easy for a tweet or a commercial spot.

Which is fine if it helps Warnock get bounced, but if it simultaneously makes 50% of the country - over time - "well if this is communism-like it's really not that bad" or "these people are reactionary and just call everything they don't like communism" - then then it's a major, major problem.

Remember when the media would report on how China would tell FB, Twitter, and Google to censor info, posts, and limit search results on any subject that made the CCP look bad or to keep info from spreading through the social media among the Chinese population.

So now our govt is doing the same thing and the media here is OK with this? If they are not throwing a hissy fit over this, then they have shown their true colors and are not working for the people but are working for the DNC and marxist govt.

Of course they have shown their true colors and are content to be the mouth piece for marxism and the DNC.

I wish you ignorant people would stop using communist/communism so freely. we aren't turning into a communist country; we are turning into a totalitarian country. If you understand we have a de facto one party country, that is the very definition of a totalitarian country. there are no dems and repukes; just one freedom hating group of evil leaders.

This 100% but people want to hang onto their old ideas of "left vs right" and "good guys vs bad guys" because it validates their personal beliefs. What we really have is a ruling oligarchy and then the other 99% of us who are divided on which flavor of shameless oligarchy we like best.

Yeah that still doesn’t = we live in a communist country. Our economy is - for the moment - still fewer than anywhere else in the developed world. The US has real problems with an authoritarian left, too many communists and socialists in the younger generation, too many people who believe in god, massive inefficiencies and redundancies, a terrible tax burden, etc. but all of those problems are because the liberal-conservative ruling elite have some us down the river. Trump was the first wildly popular candidate to call that out and they neutralized him for it. But they are taking in money hand over fist, and they redistribute tax dollars to buy votes, but they aren’t turning us into the USSR. I might eat those words in ten years if an AOC type ever makes it into leadership but for the moment the McConnell-pelosi alliance hates them too

You can argue they both are all day long, and I agree, but I’ve yet to see the government prosecute itself, so the loophole is the difference
