Drawback of being a legend. No one has the balls to tell you to spit your gum out.
I can't imagine any person telling someone to spit their gum out unless they were a teacher speaking to a student.

When you're producing a documentary, you politely ask your guests to spit out their gum. Floor directors around the world ask on-air guests to spit out their gum.
I'm guessing that someone asked him to and he blew them off, or they were afraid to tell one of the greatest recording artists of all time how chewing gum affects audio.

John chewed gum in concerts and while recording
Okay, cool. That has nothing to do with what I said nor does it make me hate it less.

Or, you know, unless that person was speaking a ton during a recorded interview that was to be used for a documentary series.

Watching now. Paul's recall of the origins behind the songs, almost 60 years after the fact, is savant-like. I'm loving this.
The story of how John grew up is heart-breaking. All that abandonment and heartache helped make him arguably the greatest songwriter that's ever lived.
Paul looks good for just turning 79. Though this was done before that, obviously. But he has aged well.

Always been a fan of Rubin.
He is one of the interviewers on the Broken Record podcast. I have always been a fan too.

This. The Beatles would of got back together had John lived.

Ringo says hello. And he turned 81 two weeks ago. He is 3 months older than John.

The day Paul leaves this world will be the day the music dies.

What a great moment at the end of ep 5.

And he’s perfect for this. He’s a guy who truly loves and appreciates music and not just in a select genre.
I could totally watch Rubin do a series with a bunch of classic stars like McCartney.

I disagree. We have heard from one of the lead guys I think it would be cool to hear from a “subordinate”. He was in the room. I’m not diminishing his role but know he had to have a different take than McCartney.

quote:It would have to be the right interviewer. Ringo can be pretty flippant about the entire thing. Sometimes he just goes with "I was the greatest drummer in the world in the greatest band in the world." But if they get him talking about the early days, and his days before the Beatles, he can come up with some interesting tidbits. The fan adulation came easier to Ringo. Paul's had a lifetime of having to promote himself out of being Lennon and McCartney.

Does he do that often though? Most times I hear/see him, or even read about him, he just talks about how lucky he was to be in a band with three of the greatest musicians/songwriters in the world. I always kinda feel like Ringo knew he was sort of along for the ride, and he just lived it up and enjoyed the hell out of it. I bet it would be cool as frick to go back and live Ringo's life. There wasn't much pressure on him when compared to John/Paul rivaling and one-upping each other, or George trying to get out from under the L/M shadow.
Ringo was a technically proficient drummer who rarely made mistakes. And that's what the Beatles needed to succeed. Had he been as overbearing as L/M, or as needy as George (and I don't mean needy in a bad way), it may not have worked as well. Hell, I've heard interviews about how fans always wanted Ringo to have more songs on the albums, and he was always like "Nah, my one song is good enough for me." And he never even wrote them (outside of Octopus's Garden I believe).

Should be later this year. It's called "Get Back" after the Get Back sessions. And yeah, I believe it is supposed to have the full rooftop concert in it. This November looks like.

mccartney says that in the rubin doc...they always tried to have a ringo song on each album because the fans wanted it. ringo co-wrote "don't pass me by" (great song), and wrote "octopus's garden". the rest of his songs were either covers or lennon/mccartney compositions
how-evah...ringo's "composing" with regard to drum patterns and fills was extraordinary. go back and listen to "tomorrow never knows" for a great example
