Jim Walmsley ran 100 miles in 14 hours and 46 minutes.

That’s an overall pace of 8:51/mile, and that includes rest stops at aid stations.

This was the first year WSER provided live streaming of the entire race. The coverage was actually entertaining considering it was a 100 mile race with little actual footage of the runners running.

8:51 pace for 100 miles. I can’t even fathom.

Walmsley is a beast. He won that with ease. If it hadn’t been so hot, he would have crushed his course record.

He is the best hope for an American to win UTMB.

Very impressive given the temps yesterday...made me feel like a wimp for doing half of my long run on the treadmill yesterday morning.

Also kudos to the announcers on the broadcast. I checked the live feed throughout the day and they never seemed to lose energy.

I'm not sure if I'd ever have the legs to do a 100 miler. As long as if it is point-to-point, I think I'd have the mental fortitude. I'd love to give one a try.

Same here. It’s my #1 bucket list item for fitness.

If I can get my mileage up to around 40/week by Christmas, I’m going to try for Pinhoti in 2022.

The Florida Keys 100 would be fun. Flat, fast, and pretty. Of course, there is no shade and if you're not used to humidity it could be bad.

But I hear Umstead in North Carolina is a good for first timers.

It isn’t even a challenge to him any more. Let’s see him go battle with some Europeans at UTMB. As usual, his legs will shred.

He is unreal and just made 3 in a row look easy. UTMB has been notoriously rough on the American runners but maybe he can change that up. I've attempted 3 100s with 2 being ended by weather and one DNF because of injury. Hope to finally notch a 100 this fall.
