I think it's a great hire, but we won't know if it's a homerun until sometime next February/March.

The only question I have is what is his in-game feel for pitching. Obviously his pitching hire will be a large part of this.

CPM was never good at it and became worse as the years went on.

If CJJ can read his players and the game as it progresses and make quality decisions about leaving/pulling pitchers, it will be a homerun.

He was in that younger tier of candidates from the start, and he certainly fell into the "up and coming, career LSU guy" category. I assume that's what they wanted and I assume he interviewed very well.
Either way, to think he cant compete for National Championships at a place like LSU after what he's done in AZ is asinine.

One other thing I like is that it appears he can work with two way players. There are several on the roster and without digging to deep it appears at least one has pulled double duty.

Small sample set, but just the fact he's open to it is a major plus for me.

It's ridiculous Cabrera never got any innings the year CPM had zero LHP on the roster.

He's the Joe Brady of college baseball. He wins by outscoring you and he's a hitting guru. He's EXACTLY what LSU needed in a baseball coach.
We're going to be fun to watch again.

its hard not to be impressed with his stint at AZ.

Except for his ~0.500 average conference record? Except for that, yes.

Pitching is key! Glad you mentioned it as a con. Not one stat in the introductory article regarding his team's past performances mentioned pitching AT ALL. Based on his record, LSU will have a good offense, but you can't win championships without pitching. Like many of you, I'll be watching closely to see what he does to compensate for an obvious weakness.
