Spinning - Daiwa BG
I am switching all my spinning gear over to Daiwa BG's. I have 6 2500's for guest combos on my boat. I was going to get myself a nicer reel but I don't see a reason to.
I got onto Daiwa with the Coastal and the Tatula HD but those are out of the price range of the OP. I'd still look for a Daiwa, their braking system is great.

You can get an Abu Garcia Revo for around that if you're patient.

I am cleaning out my camp and limiting my fishing gear. I got a few reels that I can part with if you want baitcasters.
Solid reel aluminum frame so it does not flex like a graphite frame reel. They been solid reels.
If you want a solid reel I got two right hand Diawa Tatula CT100HS 7.3 gear ratio in great shape $80 ea in Baton Rouge.
I will ship USPS Priority mail for that price if you promise to use the reels and catch some fish.
I buy usually the same reel different ratios right and left for flipping & worm using them a few years.
Then I sell them when I switch them up. I’m moving to zillions, so I got some Diawa Tatula’s I am willing to sell.
I’m not using them and they would make a great reel for someone.
This is a pic of one I the other in similar shape.

quote:you can get the combo slx rod and reel for a decent price at American Legacy Fishing $140 right now and they always have a 10% off coupon. I've read a lot of people compare the SLX rod to a St. Croix Bass X. If you already have a rod, I would still buy this combo and then try to sell the SLX rod for $50-75 (it's $100 regular) and try to get some money back.

These are good and I will show the other pic if you want.
I don’t mind selling them if you need them, as I really am focused on Zillions.
As far as a reel that a Common nice real Tatula line been good to me.

Lews LFS. Bought it because I had a gift card and needed a reel in a pinch. I have used mine inshore fishing for the past 4 years and it hasn't skipped a beat. Light and compact. It's really a joy to throw. Comes in at your budget. I throw it more than the $200 reel that I own.

Lews is good decent braking system
Diawa Tatula good better magnetic braking system
Shimano good
Abu Garcia good
What you want to look for.
Solid frame made in alum or magnesium (don’t use saltwater.
Graphite frames flex when you get a fish on it and it slowly wears out the reel faster.
Alum frame usually heavier.
Magnesium lighter they don’t like saltwater.
Graphite lightest just frame flexes.
Around $100 there a lot of good ones.
Kastking, okuma, and pflueger pure fishing brand included abu Garcia are other brands.

I can only speak to the spinning reels but I find these are undervalued in the south. I have a couple, one saltwater, a bait feeder, and one fresh. I like them both quite a bit.
Great value for the price.

Concur on the BG for a spinning reel in that price range. I have nicer stuff, including Daiwa spinning reels, but it's probably the best value.
$100 isn't going to buy a comparable baitcaster, though. Go up to $150 and there are a lot more options.
