Of course not. There are more people playing slots than poker, cheaper operating expense, and slots "rake" is at a higher rate. But that doesn't mean poker is unnecessary. Let's say you have 900 slot machines and that's way beyond need to satisfy customers demand. So adding 30 more machines isn't going to do much. Why not use that space for 5-6 poker tables that customers have demand for. The ice cream machine at McDonalds will never compete with the burgers or fries. But you still need it if you want satisfy as much customers as possible and maximize profit.

I understand. I've just seen a bunch of poker rooms die for this reason. That's always the justification.

*ETA: my friend was a pro player in Vegas and he told me Vegas has a certification that basically requires a poker room. Some casinos lose their arse on having to have one
