Curious have you ever participated in endurance sports
Posted on 5/26/22 at 10:49 pm to crazyLSUstudent
I ran track but was a sprinter.
I’ve never been much of a distance runner but I was pretty fast when I was younger. I can still run pretty quick for a solid 30 seconds but 0 endurance.
Why do you ask?

any recs on what to get...I'm on a Trek FX 3
If i were gonna put clipless pedals on an FX3 it would probably be a standard shimano spd

Just curious. I also came from an explosive movement sport background with very little base fitness coming into cycling. Upside is for my size I have a pretty good sprint. So you should be able to bust out the big watts

Great result for my kid this weekend. Two day race. We knew he would win his category if he rode clean, and he did. But he put together a great 2nd day and would have placed 1st in expert and 7th in pro if he weren’t racing as a 14 year old.
He has had a rough stretch in the last few races with mechanicals and other issues, so it was rad to see it come together.

It's race weekend at Mt. Nebo in Arkansas for my kid this weekend. Second stop on the Arkansas Enduro Series. I contemplated racing some stops on this series, but have decided just to provide support as I have other young racers that I'm also helping whose parents don't really ride. Heading down tomorrow for two days of pre-riding then racing on Sunday. We've had a ton of rain and have more on the way, but the weekend looks good. Should make for interesting riding conditions, though with some slick rocks and muddy terrain.

Brutal enduro race at Mt. Nebo this weekend. Around 23 miles, 3k' elevation and over 30 minutes of timed racing with average of 6-8 hours on the course in a heat index of 104 degrees.
The boy finished 1st in his category on a course that doesn't really play to his strengths (it was really pedally without much technical terrain or "scary" A-lines), so we were pumped on that. His time would have put him in 7th place in Pro.
Now we have a break from racing until we head out West in Mid July and hit a race or two on the way to Nationals in Winter Park.

Oof. Winter park is brutal coming from basically sea level in Arkansas.

Yep. It’s a MAJOR complaint that people have with this event. They do move it around every few years, but lots of the venues are at some elevation.
My son races enduro and dual slalom, so he is less impacted than the Xc racers, but the XC racers who come in from sea level are at a huge disadvantage.

Yeah isn’t this like the 3rd or 4th year in a row they are holding it in winter park?
Posted on 6/15/22 at 1:22 pm to crazyLSUstudent
Yes. It’s supposed to be at a venue for 2 years. But COVID happened in one kc the WP years, so they gave them a third year. So it’s only the second time it’s been there this stint, but it’s covered 3 years because it was cancelled one year. So yeah: it feels like it’s been forever since it was somewhere else.
That being said: Winter park is a good time, so I have no complaints from a visitor perspective. Prefer being at WP to having to travel out East somewhere.

Has anyone seen the Gulf Coast Cycling Club's flyer for the ITT race in August? 9 mile ITT in Pass Christian along 90, limited to 50 entrants. I've never done a bike race before so I don't know that i'll embarrass myself with this one, but it sounds like fun

Should be fixed now.
Looks like we'll be going to Windrock this weekend.

Nice one! Is that one of the drops at Santos?
We are dying to get to Windrock but we still haven't managed a trip there. We always end up heading out West on trips of that length.

What's up cycling fam. It's been awhile since I've been on the bike, I've been mostly running. The Tour always gets me back in the saddle. Anybody here familiar with the Livestrong ride in Austin in September. Looking at possibly riding it and the last map I see on it is from like 2017. Just wondering if course is the same, etc.
Also which of these would you consider the tougher ride? First is the Big Dam Bridge 105 which I did last year, the second is the Austin ride. Those rollers look brutal for a flatlander, eh?
