I like the part where Trevor is going to represent himself to the owners attorney and tell him he isn't responsible because he was just the GC and subbed it out to Mexicans with contracts to prove it.

Trevor obviously isn't licensed or else he would understand the licensing laws in Louisiana concerning who is responsible.

If his contract with the owner was over $7500, and he doesn't even have the home improvement registration, then he will be looking at a hefty fine from the contractor's board as well.

Sadly not many people know to check for licensing here

LINK

Even the home improvement registration license will have some sort of GL and comp policy in place per law. So if Trevor was licensed, then the owner would stand a chance to recoup the money in this case from his underwriter. As it stands now, they will get a judgment against him but I am guessing he has nothing of value to liquidate for them to be made whole. Hopefully, he doesn't even show up to court or respond to the suit so they get a default judgement so it saves them some time and money.

One important takeaway is being very wary of hiring a contractor who can't afford to make a mistake of the magnitude that is reasonably possible to happen on your job.

A reasonably well-capitalized contractor is not going to pour concrete that has gone off, the risk is too high. They will eat the cost then fight it out with the sub over who's fault it was. A guy living hand to mouth literally can't afford this and will take the homeowner down with his sinking ship.

Neal, I am watching the videos now and it looks like he is simply pouring an inch or two over an existing slab. That would have never lasted. The rule of thumb is if the new layer of concrete is going to be less than 3 inches thick then it would need a bonding agent between the old and new. I don't see that Trevor added any primer to the old slab. It doesn't even look like he bothered to pressure wash it which would need to be done to add a primer. You would have had trouble with that eventually.

Eh...I have seen it happen but usually, you spray it off fast so it doesn't dry. In this case, the concrete was already setting up and they had no chance.

The worst part is covering the weep holes and only adding a layer an inch or two thick over existing concrete.

That slab would have been too high as well for a patio and the owner would have had a real risk of water entering through the weep holes and under the door. The old slab should have been ripped out first IMO. The owners had no way of knowing that and should have been told by the "professional"
