Who here agreed with pulmonary with the pitching (from the beginning of the game)?

I understand baseball (which many here don’t, frick you LSUAG88).
He had no starting pitcher that could go 2+ innings from the start. He did exactly what he needed to do, pitch middle relievers every inning or so, get us into the 7th, still in the hunt, and bring in the big dogs!!!
I’m not defending some of his stupid decisions for the last five years, but tonight, he made the right call.

It was a sound strategy except why pull Hilliard after only 14 pitches. He could have went another inning, same with Hellmers.

Thank god we didn’t go extras. We burned guys in the middle who appeared to have extra innings in them. A 12-14 inning game would have killed us.

I’m not sure he was pulled. It’s probably more likely that was decided before the game and there was nothing that was going to change it.

We will never know. Hilliard could have said he was done after one. If a pitcher even feels a tiny ting in his arm or shoulder, he knows he is at risk. Hilliard may have called it, putting the team above his ego.

Hard to argue with the result.

I thought he did a good job tonight.
Hilliard was the perfect guy to come in and start it off, keep things from getting out of hand early. You knew he didn't have a lot in the tank, but he just needed to get through one inning, and he did.
After that, it was a matter of riding the bats, and stealing innings without too much damage given up, get towards the end and let Marceaux try to close it out.
It worked.

We were asking these very same questions. I mean, it worked out in the end but it seemed like those two should have stayed in longer. Also, I was getting nervous in that last inning with Marceaux. I thought Fontenot should have come in. But hey, we won. I guess that’s all that matters.

He may have come in if they got a runner in scoring position. He had to be saved in case of extra innings.

That’s all some of these fools can see. They can’t see there might have been better ways to win than by 1 run with the tying run 90 feet away. You don’t get burnt every time you play with fire. Doesn’t make it advisable.

Hilliard and then Hellmers should have stayed in until there was some sign of trouble

The last thing we needed was walks. Marceaux’s breaking ball had a good bite to it and is much more effective than Fontenot’s, especially after they saw him yesterday.

He made the calls that won the game. However I would have brought marceaux in the 7th for their dudes and went edwards 8th Fontenot 9th. That is all lineup based and obviously what was went with worked!

We have no idea what the guys who had pitched earlier had in the tank, but I did expect Hellmers to eat up another inning or two. It looked like he was just getting into a groove when he was pulled. That said, coach took what he had and pieced together a win, it was well done.

A sign of trouble against the bats of Oregon? That’s basically giving up a run at every sign of trouble. LSU loses by 2 tonight.
How many 2-out hits did they have tonight, 4 or 5?

Fools? Why do y’all think Oregon wasn’t going to hit Hilliard and Hellmers like they did everyone else? It’s easy to say they were taken out too early just because no runs were scored. It doesn’t mean Oregon wasn’t seeing them well. I’m willing to bet Hilliard was never going more than an inning no matter what and none of us know how he felt.

You can walk a guy or give up a couple base hits without them a run scoring. And even if the first sign of trouble is a solo home run, that still could have been a scoreless inning or two before where the guy who did pitch those innings was scored against.

They hadn’t really yet. Some of the others got in trouble right away.

The odds of the other team scoring after a “sign of trouble” skyrockets. Why wait until you get into that situation? Keep your arms fresh and the batters guessing with a new pitcher before any signs of trouble.
