Unless you somehow know for a fact were just gonna rake today, there's nothing foolish in saying we aren't hitting well enough to not throw our best option.

That's your problem. You are blinded by the name on the jerseys and not being objective

Who are you starting in game 6 Sunday night and game 7 Monday night?

LSU, who just lost their first regional game in almost 40 years lol

Yes, that team.

If the goal was saving pitching, Labas should have gone game 1 followed by JWS tonight. Then we'd have been in really good shape, right?

We're LSU, we can do that

How would a higher chance of losing today help? CCSU has shown to be capable hitters. We cannot frick around with them. We aren't good enough.

I would agree with you most years. This year's team simply isn't good enough for the mindset y'all have.

I never said they were good enough to win the regional. Anyone who believed that is delusional.

However, this is still LSU baseball so they should be trying to win it regardless. I have no doubt the kids want to win it, it’s why they came here. Paul on the other hand? No, he’s making moves to appease his own ego.

That is why I’m disappointed.

There are. You just can't figure that out because you think we are better than we are.

Dance around the question because you know starting Hilliard today means LSU is fricked for games 6 and 7.

I have a plan to get to game 7. You don't and you want to start guys like Coleman and Hellmers against Oregon or Gonzaga instead of Central Connecticut.

I'm not dancing at all. You have to win today to even worry about who starts next. Someday that will click for you. Maybe. Probably not though.

We are not good enough to assume a win against anyone.

Alot of arms will need to contribute if we're going to win this regional, that's always been the case, no matter how you sequence them. I'm fine with Hilliard today - Gonzaga wasn't impressive offensively and they already burned their ace, so Labas (or whoever they choose) should be fine against them tomorrow. Oregon's pitching wasn't impressive, and they will have burned their top 2 starters after today. We just have to score runs - our pitchers have been doing their jobs.

I'm just using your logic of "we're LSU"

Don't get mad at me that it looks stupid.

Burning Hilliard today is not trying to win anything other than today’s game.

Hence the problem.

Kind of a big deal in an elimination game when your hitting has sucked balls.

Wrong. I never insinuated LSU has good enough players to pull off what you’re suggesting.

I simply stated LSU is a program where it is unacceptable to go 1-2 in regionals.

Try again.

What’s the difference between this elimination game and the next 3? All 3 of those being against much better competition.

You can’t see the forest for the trees.

At what point have I said they are good enough to win anything?

You seem to have trouble comprehending what’s being posted.

I have always detested this logic. It sounds so smart and level-headed... Until one actually does five seconds worth of math.

The ol' "can't win 4 until you win 1" argument completely fails to recognize that 1 win is not more of an accomplishment than going 0-2. Either way, your season is done. So, with that in mind, you have to look ahead and try to save your better pitching if you have a weaker opponent. I hear that CCSU can hit. That's fine. Can they pitch? Not really. You should, at worst, be able to slug your way past that team, if you're any good. If you can't, you had no business even being there in the first place. But, by burning your best remaining pitcher now, you might win, but when the bats go cold, you're not going to have anyone to bail you out.

Now, we can hope for a "Cinderella" scenario where guys like Blake Money, Will Hellmers and Ty Floyd just come out of nowhere and pitch their best games of the season. And that is theoretically possible, and is going to HAVE to happen for LSU to have a chance. So I'm hoping that does happen. But it's not likely, and burning Hilliard on the 4 seed makes it even harder.

Gets it. This team isn’t good enough to win the regional. No one who’s rational is going to argue that.

Mainieri is essentially bunting to avoid going 0-2. That’s what’s so disappointing.
