Because it’s the cheapest private membership in BR
Well there’s only 3 private courses in BR and two of them will cost you $40-50K just to buy in. At $6K for a local membership it’s enough.

Have never heard that number but right now in BR possibly so

It’s been that high at those courses for the last 20 years. But their amenities are legit too.
Word is that UC is about to make some big time expansions to their facilities pretty soon.

Things move slow at UC.
When and if they do the “big expansion” just be ready for a big increase in dues plus an assessment more than likely.

Not even close. You can buy equity in CCLA for 12,500. No equity in UC. Now there are assessments at CCLA and BRCC (just did a major renovation and probably facing another one due to flood damage at CCLA) but their facilities are off the chart better than UC. May change when UC does renovations though but dues will go up.

Curious to know what this "big expansion" you speak of might entail? Rumors right now or are plans drawn up and moving through progression?

adding 2 more 18 hole courses... the houses are getting knocked down

Agreement in principle with some pretty big names. Off-course upgrades for golfers and other members.

I’m surprised BR doesn’t have another good private course. 850k people in the city, I’d say based on how overcrowded Uclub is there’s an opportunity for another private track that’s affordable

One for sure is not that high

At one point there were at least three others, but they've al closed.
I think a cheaper private in the city could be cool. Something that is truly private and has that feel, but that isn't as nice as BRCC and CCL. Wow, I'm basically asking for Sherwood.

The golf shop is moving to the open area between 9 and 10 with a turn shack for quick snacks. The upstairs is being turned into a full size restaurant and bar. Allegedly starting construction in Aug. There will be some unsightly temp buildings for awhile. For the thought on assessing members to help pay for things, I don’t believe that would be legal in a for profit club. I do assume due will increase.

I was a member at Fairwood until it closed. I'd love a place like that. I don't need the course to be as nice as CCL and I don't want to have to drive to Gonzales or Plaquemine or Zachary every time I want to play golf. But here we are.
lsu13lsu will be along shortly to tell me how I'm wrong and it's all BREC's fault.

I think part of the problem is that it’s been proven BR can’t support another club like that, think of how many have closed or started out private and are now public.
The country clubs that are still standing have also had major membership issues and had to offers deals to continue operations

There's Pelican and Greystone.
Fairwood, Sherwood, Santa Maria couldn't support a private golf club. BREC courses couldn't survive without a tax base funding it.

That's your "cheap" private options nearest to the city. The ones that were in the city don't exist anymore.

Do the members have any say so in the changes that are coming or is it left directly up to the Board and the members take it or leave it?
